Tenebre - Electric Hellfire Kiss
Electric Hellfire Kiss is the fourth full length album from the gothic metal band Tenebre. Tenebre sounds a bit like 69 Eyes and Paradise Lost in the same genre - but still it is somewhat different. The style of the music is a mix between gothic metal and rock'n'roll - and this is indeed an interesting cocktail. Because of the rock'n'roll element, the music is not quite as gloomy, and melancholic as most gothic metal - still the lyrics are dark and mystical. Judging by the lyrics and the covers of Tenebre's albums, they seem to have a thing for half-naked gothic women - hmm...

The album has a great sound, and there is a good relation between the various instruments. Overall the music is very melodic, and this makes the songs very catchy. I can't help myself to think, that some of these songs are so "ordinary" that they could actually be played on the radio; all the songs are built up like any normal rock song. Still there is a rough edge to the songs, and especially the vocals remind that this is still metal. They vary from normal gothic style to occasional short growls. This is "easy-listening metal" in my ears - it is a good album to hear while you're doing something else.

The title number Electric Hellfire Kiss is a pretty good straightforward and melodic song - it is very groovy, and it has a nice guitar leads. Descend From Heaven is also a good and catchy song, which is pretty simple. I like the use of double bass drums in both this song, and the rest of them. She Darks The Sun is an excellent slow ballad. The vocals is the only problem with this song - they become a bit rough in the long run.

Electric Hellfire Kiss is a pretty good album, and I would recommend you buy it, if you like goth metal. Still, I don't think that Tenebre is quite as good as the bands I mentioned in the beginning of the review. This is an above average album, and I rate it 6.5/10. As a bonus, according to the promo material, the CD will improve your chances of getting laid!
