Damon Johnson - Release
Damon Johnson is known as Brother Cane singer/guitarist. Johnson has also played guitars for Alice Cooper for quite a while. When Damon Johnson and Ryan Roxie were in Cooper's band I considered them to be the strongest backing Alice Cooper ever had.

"Release" is nothing like Damon Johnson previous work with Cooper, Brother Cane or Slave to the System. Damon Johnson takes advantages of this being a solo album and explores new ground since this is a mellow acoustic driven album. "Release" is an album for the open minded rock fan - especially since it takes a while to let these passionate songs sink in. Everyday is a prime example, since the mellow acoustic song wins after several listens.

There are two songs that nicely break the mellow cozy vibe: Leave It All Behind is energetic and a nice rocking tune. Generation Landslide was originally on Alice Cooper's "Billion Dollar Babies" album and this version features Alice Cooper on harmonica/vocals. Generation Landslide features electric guitars and the mix of electric and acoustic actually suits Damon Johnson's music and also suits this record, because all acoustic can become a bit dull.

Most of the songs are based around just Damon and his acoustic guitar. Damon's voice is great and his guitar playing superb. Damon Johnson's daughter is featured on three songs and while she fails to impress me on two tunes she takes the listener by storm on the Shelby Lynne cover Where I'm From. Wow - the apple never falls far from the tree.
