Dave Evans was
AC/DC's vocalist before Bon Scott joined the band. On February 19th 2002 - the 20th anniversary of Bon Scott's tragic death -
Dave Evans played a show with Australian
AC/DC cover band
Thunderstruck in a small Melbourne tavern.
The show was recorded and released under the moniker "A
Hell of a Night". It took
Dave Evans quite some years to finally release his solo albums in Europe. In 2010 German label STF Records released "Sinner" and "Judgement Day".
After his stint with
AC/DC Dave Evans joined Newcastle band Rabbit. Rabbit released 6 singles and two albums between 1975 and 1977. After Rabbit
Dave Evans formed
Thunder Down Under.
"Sinner" was originally recorded in 2007. However,
Dave Evans plays barroom Boogie Rock N' Roll just like
AC/DC and this kind of music is timeless - so who cares about what year it was recorded?
"Sinner" is 12 solid songs from the self proclaimed King of all Badasses. The album is mostly written by producer/guitarist Mark Tinson, who also played guitar in Rabbit. The album highlight is the irresistible
Only the Good Die Young and the moody riff based
Out in the Cold. The title track
Sinner is a boogie rocker. Hard core
AC/DC fans won't be disappointed since the song writing is top notch.
"Judgement Day" opens with the bouncy
We Don't Dance To Your Song. The song just puts a wide smile on your face. From the first song it becomes clear that
Dave Evans isn't here to preach about political issues. This is Rock N' Roll and all about having a good time. .
This kind of music always walks the fine line between rocking and sucking (read: primitive). Only
Little Headbanger falls a bit out of place. The album ends with a great bouncing version of
House of Rising Sun where
Dave Evans proves his skills as a fine Rock N' Roll vocalist.
If you invest in either "Sinner" or "Judgement Day" you get tough no frills kick ass Rock N'Roll. "Sinner" is the strongest but my advice is to buy both if you like this kind of music.
