Crank County Daredevils formed in 2003. Based in Northern Carolina the band has the rawest sleaze sound and coolest look/image.
The band is underground and has build a fan base on extensive touring and never compromising. The "no compromise" has been characteristic, since they have run the band independently for the past five years.
The band now has 3 albums under their belt - the debut being"Kings of Sleaze" - A cocky title for a debut album.
Singer Scotty P. s voice is raw and definitely scares off the mainstream audience. You can almost smell the cigarettes on his breath when he belts out brilliant songs like
Ride the Dog.
The music is consistent but no songs on "Kings of Sleaze" deviate from the others in rawness or tempo. The album ends after a playing time of 34 minutes with
Back in the Nasty, which may be one of the best songs to drink beer to.
"Kings of Sleaze" album highlight;
Ride the Dog. Fresh from the print is the new self titled album released late December 2009. The album was recorded early 2009 and has been a long road in the making, which only made the arrival even more anticipated.
Don't expect any U-turns. The album contains 10 tacks, which are fired off in 32 minutes.
The objection against "Kings of Sleaze" and the brilliant "Livin' in the Red" was the lack of variation. "
Crank County Daredevils" is the most varied and also most ambitious release from the gang.
Scotty P. voice has got a bit darker, but still raw. Crank County Daredevil still delivers strong raw and trustworthy sleaze, but there are more ingredients to the album. The sound has more nuances. Since "Livin in the Red"
Crank County Daredevils has gotten a new guitar player and guitarist Kory Kelly sets his mark on this record with lots of solos. His tone is a bit bluesy and thick.
The biggest surprise is
It's Calling Me.
Crank County Daredevils has slowed down the tempo and even has a clean guitar in it.
Its Calling Me is a brilliant song, which just proves that
Crank County Daredevils are good songwriters.
It seems like the band have toned down their tattooed sleaze look in favor of a more hillbilly look - BUT don't get me wrong the music is still in your face sleaze metal that goes great with cheap wine or beer unlimited.
Best songs:
Back in the Motor City and
Its Calling Me. Get on your knees for the Kings of Sleaze. The band is currently on an extensive European tour, so check out their website for tourdates.
