Dies Irae - The Sin War
I was really excited when I received this promo CD with Dies Irae, and found out who the members were. I hadn't heard anything with the band before, and when I found out that two of the members come from one of my favorite death metal bands Vader, my expectations grew from being non-existent to being very high. Mauser and Doc the guitarist and the drummer from Vader play in Dies Irae.

The album didn't quite live up to my expectations - it is a pretty standard death metal album without a lot of nerve and inventiveness. Having said that, the album is still worth listening to - it is quite heavy and it has its moments. It is not as technical as you could have hoped for with such competent musicians, but compared to a lot of other bands the technical level is acceptable.

The vocals, done by Novy (Devilyn), are brutal but they are not very varied, and they become a bit monotonous in the long run. I will look on some of the bright sides of this album.

Incarnation Of Evil is a pretty cool and straightforward number. It is a fast track, and Doc gets to show off his double bass drum skills very well. There is good and very melodic guitar solo in the end of the number.

Another good track is Horde Of Angry Demons and it is also very fast (as the title suggests). There is a nice flow in the number, and there is a great variation between slow and fast riffs.

The best number is in my opinion Genocide Generation - the guitars are really great, and there is a nice lead in the middle of the track. This track is also a bit more varied than the other ones.

My conclusion of The Sin War is that it is not a must-buy album. If you are a big fan of Vader, I guess you need this album - but it really isn't quite as good as I had hoped for. I rate the album 6/10 based on the above observations.
