Black Stone Cherry - Folklore and Superstition (Special edition)
The debut from Black Stone Cherry was great. In my album review I described Black Stone Cherry as the missing link between Blackfoot and Black Label Society.

Last year these Kentucky guys entered the stage 12 noon at Sweden Rock festival and blew everyone away with their musicianship and great songs. The follow up "Folklore and Superstition" came soon after and at first it was disappointing. However, this album is a grower and after several listens it becomes another bulls-eye from the youngsters.

The leading single Blind Man was aired at Sweden Rock festival and certainly among album highlights. Black Stone Cherry has grown as song writers since "Folklore and Superstition" is more varied and better.

The album has spawned three singles Blind Man, Things that My Father Said and Please Come in. Black Stone Cherry has a unique ability to write heavy ass kicking tunes wrapped up in melodic choruses. Reverned Wrinkle and The Key are great example. The band succeeds in the rare art of writing hit songs without losing credibility - the catchy single Things that My Father said is a perfect example.

"Folklore and Superstition" has just been re-released in a special edition with a bonus CD. The extra disc has a playing time of 38 minutes and holds high standard. Big City Nights and Cowboys could easily have been on any of Black Stone Cherry's album. The acoustic version of Peace is Free is amazing. Chris Robertsen is a great singer with a strong set of pipes.

These young Kentucky guys are amazing song writers. They are a lot heavier than the average Heavy Rock group, but their melodies and catchiness is stunning. Black Stone Cherry takes the traditions and toughness of Southern Rock and carries it into Heavy Rock. The debut was good, but "Folklore and Superstition" is a tad better. If you haven't bought the album yet you are out of excuses with this special edition of the album with a full bonus disc.

These guys are still in their twenties, released 2 killer albums and toured as support for Whitesnake/Def Leppard (UK) and Nickelback (US). The band is supertight and with two strong albums under their belt they are one of the most promising bands. On "Folklore and Superstition" Black Stone Cherry have found themselves and their own style. They have settled with it......and Thank god for that.

What an Album!

I checked out the single Blindman and what a killer tune. I am looking forward to getting this release.

Chris Robertson is a strong vocalist and sounds a little like John Bush (Armored Saint/Anthrax).
