Finland has spawned lots of Gothic Hard Rock acts.
In 1999
The 69 Eyes already had 4 albums under their belt, when they were signed by Roadrunner. After they went platinum in Finland their reputation grew worldwide.
The 69 Eyes has sometimes been labeled as a "HIM light" version, but these vampires were around before Ville Valo and his gang.
In 2004 69 Eyes was signed to EMI/Virgin Records in Finland and album number eight 'Devils' was released. This live recording is taken from the "Devils" tour. The show is recorded March 24
th 2006 at the most famous venue ever: Whisky a Go Go.
It is not accidental that they call themselves the Helsinki Vampires.
The 69 Eyes is dark Gothic with singer Jyrki's voice upfront.
The album highlights are the gloomy
Christina Death,
The Chair and
Wrap Your Troubles in Dreams from the same titled album, which dates back to 1997
The sound is great and every instrument is clear. Singer Jyrki is all over the record with his deep voice in focus. The show lacks the hit singles that the following album "Angels" generated, but it is a great introduction to 69 Eyes.
In 2007
The 69 Eyes released "Angels" with the hit single
Perfect Skin. Right now the band is in the studio making the follow up to "Angels" but chose to take a short studio break, so make sure to catch them on the Tiamat Tour in February/March.
