Band Profile

1. What is your name and your current position in the band?

John Allen singer/front piece

2. How would you categorize the style of the band? And did you ever consider or try playing other styles of music than the one(s) you are playing now?

Raw, Dirty, Bluesy, Rock N Roll!

3. What is your latest album and why should people buy it?

"Let's Rock N Roll" and people should buy it because otherwise our drummer may have to come to live with you otherwise!

4. Tell us about the history of the band. More specifically, when was the band formed, how did you meet, and have there been any particular highlights or low points in your career, any crucial events that have taken you where you are today?

The current line-up of the band was formed 2 years ago. We had been friends and band mates in the past... I put the guitar down so I have a bit more freedom onstage and my former bass player and guitarist left to join a band that was touring and everything just fell into place. As for high points and low points... we played a gig in 12 degree weather 2 weeks ago! It was both high and low! We had to be really high to play in a temperature that FUCKIN' low!!! Nah, the high part of that was the fact that our guitar players actually made it through that show (without frostbite)!

5. Was there ever a time when you wondered if your band would remain just a local outfit and never make it in the industry?

Well, we are just getting in the industry so we have a lot of work to do yet. But, sure there are times when things are rough but you keep going.

6. Can you share with us one or two of your favourite moments with the band?

We haven't been together very long yet but when drive to the gigs or rehearse or play together it's like hanging out with the best of friends. We are telling stories - having a laugh. Also, opening for established artist like Saving Abel, Buckcherry and others and having a killer show is great as well.

7. How is the writing process in the band?

I write the songs and we play them... All the guys came into the fold after I had written the tunes but I am hoping the next record will be a collaboration.

8. What brought you on the path to becoming a musician? Did you ever consider or take any other paths through life besides music?

Well, I'm only 5' 7" on a tall day and about 140 lbs so a career in the NFL was not in the cards! The only thing I considered might be a good "fall back plan" was doing TV or Movie production. Sitting in an editing suite for hours trying to reach perfection is a lot like recording music - sounds fun doesn't it????

9. Do you have any idols? If yes, who?

Tons! I am a fan just like anybody! The list is endless! Nikki Sixx, Axl Rose, Scott Weiland, Bon Scott, Angus and Malcolm Young, Jimmy Page yadda yadda it goes on and on!

10. Do you have any regrets looking back at your career? For example any songs or even full albums that you regret recording? If so, what made you regret it?

Nah, there is nothing I can do about it if I did. I regret hurting people in my life or not understanding what other people are going through at different points in my life.

11. Are there particular songs in your catalogue that the fans love but you're not particular fond of yourself?

I actually really like our record so no, I don't have any songs like that (not yet)!

12. How important do you rate the lyrical side of your albums?

I think lyrics are important. Some songs are just about having fun , or on the surface seem to be, like "Let's Rock N Roll (Endless Road)" but some are deeper such as "Almost Home". Some songs are about anger and frustration. Others are maybe more of a social commentary ("House Fire", "Money"). So yeah, I think they are important. A lot of the songs are about some portion of my life.

13. What do you think about the state of the music industry today?

It seems to be constantly changing - huh?

14. What do you think is the best way to fight music piracy?

I have no idea. It would be nice to make a modest living doing this. But it seems that it's either feast or famine.

15. Do you have a life philosophy? If yes, what is it?

I used to think that the ONLY thing was music and sometimes I still do -- ok most of the time I still do, but I am trying to enjoy the people around me and be thankful for what I have not what I don't!

16. Can you describe a typical day in your life?

Just like everyone else's - wake up drink my coffee or my tea (sometimes both) and try to get through the day without killing some motherfucker! Oh, did I just write that? I mean, just nose to the grindstone blah blah blah.

17. What do you like to spend your time with besides music?

I pick my nose quite a bit.

18. What's the craziest thing that has ever happened on a tour?

Oh I can't write about that - cheeky one YOU! The kids might be reading instead of doing their school work!

19. You're heading off to live on a deserted island for a couple of years with your portable entertainment system... Which albums, movies or books would you bring? (Max. 3 of each)

Albums: Ven Vici Vicious - The Hives, You're a Woman, I'm a Machine Death From Above 1979, Box Set of Robert Johnson

Movies: Godfather, Godfather 2, Pulp Fiction or Goodfellas

Books: Extremely Loud, Incredibly Close, Devils In the White City, Pillars Of the Earth - Ken Follet

20. What is your favourite joke?

How can you tell a drummer is at your door? The knocking speeds up and slows down! ( I am a former drummer)

21. Can you tell us about any future plans for you and your band?

We/I hope to get out on tour this spring and summer to support our record.

22. Thanks for answering these questions. Now you are free to write a few lines to our readers.

Can't wait to meet you when we get out on the road! Come up and say hello and have a beer, or a shot, or a beer and a shot! Until then check us out on www.myspace.com/charmcitydevils
