Gemini Five led the Swedish Sleaze invasion with their pioneer debut "Babylon Rockets". The album was founded on all the classic sleaze elements, but updated with modern elements and a beefy sound.
The follow up "Black Anthem" was a big U-turn, since the album was dominated by sound effects and a cold industrial sound. Sadly the catchy melodies were gone!
So what's in store for the Swedes third album? According to the band "Sex Drugs Anarchy" reveals the true colors of the band and by first track
I am Hollow it becomes clear that it's a return to the pure street gutter street sleaze that made "Babylon Rockets" such a great album.
Album highlights:
Scream 4 Me has a great in-your-face riff that permeates the song. The chorus is a typical sing along anthem that for certain will become a live favorite. The title track is co-written by Peter London and Martin Sweet from CrashDiet. The song has a driving beat alike CrashDiet's
Breaking the Chains with the chorus being the icing of the cake. The tongue in cheek
Lay Your Money Down is the opposite of the music on "Black Anthem".
Lay Your Money Down is a fun straight ahead catchy song with a big riff.
"Sex Drugs and Anarchy" is a mighty return of Gemini Five, but not the complete triumphant return. A few bands has overtaken their position at top of the Sleaze throne and "Sex Drugs Anarchy" is certainly a massive step in regaining the Sleaze throne, but they have to exclude standard songs like
Here 2day gone 2mrw and
Blood on the Bricks. Tin Star's vocals sounds great and the band has been getting help from Kory Clarke (Warrior Soul) co-writing lyrics for 4 songs. The 12 songs were recorded as a 3 piece with guitars being handled by Martin Sweet and Marcus Jidell (Royal Hunt). After the release of this album new lead guitarist Dee Dee was introduced but he only lasted one tour.
CrashDiet also lost their singer, so with the track
Sex Drugs Anarchy in mind maybe they should ally forces in a
Queen and Paul Rodgers alike constellation.
