Richie Kotzen - Return of Mother Head´s Family Reunion
One cannot accuse Mr. Kotzen of not being diverse in his approach to music. The straight forward Rock Album "Get Up" was followed by an acoustic album. Last year the dark and moody "Into The Black" was released and now "Return of Mother Head's family Reunion" indicates that Richie has gone back to blending Rock, soul and blues like he did on his first solo album. This is the perfect sequel to his 1994 album "Mother Head's Family Reunion". This record is also based in 60´s soul and 70´s blues, but performed by a rock artist.

Kotzen just loves to play, which might explain why he is so productive and makes one album a year. I just loved the last 2 Richie Kotzen albums and wasn't too excited about his return to the soulful Blues Rock style. However, Kotzen is a talented song writer and once again he has written some outstanding tunes. The opening track Go Faster is a straight ahead rocker, which is very alike the "Get Up" album.

The album highlights includes Fooled again, which is grounded in soul music. The long extended guitar solo proves Kotzen´s spectre of wailing guitars, emotional playing and free flowing jam. The bluesy Dust and the catchy You´re Crazy are brilliant tunes that rank among Kotzen's finest work.

In general the album is dominated by a Blues and soul vibe. The overall quality is lowered compared to "Get Up" and "Into the Black". Again I understate that Rock just suits Richie Kotzen best.
