This recording captures
Judas Priest in Denver June 25th 1980. With five other exceptional albums under their belt the setlist is strong.
Judas Priest toured in support of one their strongest records "British Steel" and therefore the emphasis is on that record. The setlist is varied with several of their older and straight-forward Heavy metal anthems plus a couple of my personal favorites off "Hell Bent for Leather".
"Priest Live" is one of my favorite live albums. Die-hard Priest fans found "Priest Live" too polished and criticized it off lacking older tunes. If you share same opinion this is a safe buy, since this concert is unpolished and raw.
This is pure Priest as the sound in front of an audience. The sound levels have not been fixed in the mix . Listen to
Hell Bent for Leather, where
Halford scares you with his "Leather" since its twice as loud as his "normal" vocals. The chorus for
Living after midnight doesn't sound too tight or rehearsed, which is the charm of this record - its raw, honest and displays a British band trying to make a US breakthrough.
Glen Tipton and K.K. Downing´s guitar work is razor sharp and precise. The highlight of the album is the epic
Beyond the Realms of Death.
Halford sounds raw and his voice still got that special Birmingham rasp to it.
This is
Judas Priest! With this batch of classic songs you know what you get.
