Great White - Back to the Rhythm
Great White has reunited and unlike most reunions, the band actually recorded fresh music. "Back to the Rhythm" is the first Great White album in 8 years.

Never change a winning team!. Jack Russell, Mark Kendall, Audie Desbrow, Michael Lardie and Sean McNabb bring Great White back in the ball game. Since their debut in 1984 Great White has sold six million records.

By the first chorus on opening track Back To The Rhythm I found myself tapping my feet and having a big smile on my face...... THEY ARE BACK! The tasty solo from mark Kendall fully convinced me.

Here Goes My Head Again is among album highlights - the mid-tempo rocker has a chorus, which captures all the classic Great White ingredients and Jack Russell´s soulful voice still sounds fantastic.

Great White has always made some great ballads - Save your love and Love is a lie still sends shivers down my spine. Of course the new album has a few ballads: Play on is great without being close to the 2 aforementioned.

Was Is The Night is a big ballad of the album, the song oozes emotion. Jack Russell has been blessed with one of the strongest and most expressive voices. Everything comes together since the musicians are top notch. Especially Michael Lardie and Mark Kendall complement each other. On Was is the night Michael Lardie plays some touchy piano notes, while Kendall plays some emotional bluesy notes.

"Back to the rhythm" has been written and recorded with the old proverb"Cobbler, stick to your last" in mind. The classic Great White formula has been used for most songs with a couple of new ideas thrown in. It's trustworthy and authentic! However, the album lacks variation since most songs are mid-tempo. The album lacks a couple of strong rocking tunes in the vein of Desert Moon and Step on you. Only Still Hungry deviates from the batch of ballads and mid-tempo songs.

Today I can still put on my Great White records and be amazed. In 10 years I probably still prefer the old stuff still, but "Back to the Rhythm" is a very welcomed return and worthy comeback to one of the best blues based hard rock bands ever. .. maybe the best.
