Other information Band Profile
What is your name and your current position in the band?
Cede Dupont, guitarist and one of the main songwriters of Symphorce.
Tell us about the history of the band. More specifically, when was the band formed, how did you meet, and have there been any particular highlights or low points in your career, any crucial events that have taken you where you are today?
The band was formed back in 98. We've had a lot of highlights and a lot of low points, I think it's something definitely every band goes through. I'd say playing in the States for the first time was one of the highlights, playing Wacken and Sweden Rock too. Actually there were so many highlights that makes it hard to name just a few. The low points have always had something to do with the business side of the industry.
Was there ever a time when you wondered if your band would remain just a local outfit and never make it in the industry?
It's something that surrounds us with every record release. But who cares if we make it in the industry as long as we're happy with what we're doing. And thanks to our loyal fans we always get appreciated for what we do!
What is your latest album and why should people buy it?
"Become Death", ...people should buy it, because it's the strongest Symphorce album, and it has something for everyone who loves metal music.
How would you categorize the style of the band? And did you ever consider or try playing other styles of music than the one(s) you are playing now?
Symphorce is hard to be categorized. We have different styles, and we always try to develop and let new influences flow to our music. We're melodic, kicking ass, grooving and playin our ass off :)
Can you share with us one or two of your favourite moments with the band?
Playing the Progpower Festival in Atlanta was an amazing moment, everything was just pure and rock n' roll. The Flight, the hotel, the city, the gig, the audience, the fans, the band, and the chicken wings, ........everything just ruled, hehe
How is the writing process in the band?
Me, Markus and Dennis basically produce the musicdemos at our own places and Andy puts his Lyrics and vocallines to it afterwards. That's basically it. 4 different cooks cooking the soup of hell, lol
What brought you on the path to becoming a musician? Did you ever consider or take any other paths through life besides music?
I don't know, music and guitars just caught me when I was a teenager, ...I have been passionate ever since. Probably being a Slash fan brought me to the path of buying my first guitar.
Do you have any idols? If yes, who?
Slash, Paul Gilbert, Dimebag, Zakk Wylde, just to name a few.
Do you have any regrets looking back at your career? For example any songs or even full albums that you regret recording? If so, what made you regret it?
I wouldn't say "regret", but there's of course always something where you think you could have done better. It's been all good experiences though. It's always a learning process that brings you one step forward.
Are there particular songs in your catalogue that the fans love but you're not particular fond of yourself?
Hard to say, ........it's seems that our fans have the same favourite songs that we have.
How important do you rate the lyrical side of your albums?
Actually I'm a guitarist, so I'm more foccused on the music, ....I don't really care what we sing about as long as it kicks ass and sounds great.
What do you think about the state of the music industry today?
The download thing is definetely a big problem for us, ........I think we have not had the support we needed to get bigger though. But it's something you always complain about.
What do you think is the best way to fight music piracy?
Give people some cool extras, like a bonus dvd, or a nice booklet and artwork. And in the end, you have to make people know that they destroy the bands and the industry if they continue supporting piracy.
Do you have a life philosophy? If yes, what is it?
Make the best out of your day, even though you can do it tomorrow too, haha
Can you describe a typical day in your life?
Sleeping, drinking, eating, working, playing guitar, thinking about the next day.
What do you like to spend your time with besides music?
Ride my motorbike, hanging around with friends and watch good movies.
What's the craziest thing that has ever happened on a tour?
Seeing people puke in the audience, wipe it away, and continue singing your lyrics and songs, haha
You're heading off to live on a deserted island for a couple of years with your portable entertainment system... Which albums, movies or books would you bring? (Max. 3 of each)
Dvds: King of Queens, Porn, and Dream Theater Dvd's
Cd's: some Jimi Hendrix, some Guns n' Roses, some Mr. Big.
Books: Motley Crue's "the Dirt", and maybe some "how to survive on a fuckin lonely island" magazine.
What is your favourite joke?
I'm a guitarist in a heavy metal band, we don't do jokes, we're EVIL , haha
Can you tell us about any future plans for you and your band?
Maybe do some more shows, and start creating my own band.

Comment by Matt (Anonymous) - Thursday, July 5, 2007 | I used to like Symphorce. But their last two albums are boring as hell, even borderline nu-metal, and their old stuff doesn't age well either. |
