In the 70´s British bands like Led Zeppelin, Queen, and Black Sabbath ruled the world. In the late 80´s the Brits were once again ready to take on the world with bands like Thunder, Little Angels, Dogs D'Amour and The Quireboys.
The Quireboys' debut album "A Bit of What you Fancy" is a timeless classic, but the band has kept releasing high quality albums in the traditional Rock N´ Roll vein. The band has kept playing good time Rock N' Roll and still dress impeccable favoring pin striped suits.
Often Quireboys' lyrics deal with drinking and having a good time. The band's trustworthy singer Spike lives and breathes every line he sings about. If you attend a live show you'll often find Spike drinking a Vodka Cranberry or two on stage....just like this DVD release. That is one of the best things about this DVD - the band doesn't show off or anything, they are just being real aka being The Quireboys.
The bands sweaty Rock N'Roll is best experienced live and "One More for the Road" sees the band performing at Astoria Theater in London. The DVD is one complete show and it displays a true Rock N' Roll band entertaining and performing a smoking set. The band plays fantastic and the sound on the DVD makes you wish for an album release as well.
The setlist includes songs from all albums with "Bittersweet and Twisted" being a bit neglected. The band has so many classics that they have to play and
7 O'clock, This is Rock N' Roll, Tramps and Thieves, I Don't Love You anymore and
Misled always sound fantastic.
A most pleasant surprise is a heartfelt version of
Searchin´ from "This is Rock N' Roll" Spike really has that special touch and emotion to his hoarse voice. The arrangement has been changed a bit, which adds another dimension to the tune and makes it a highlight of the show. Spike is a old dog in the game and unpretentious - He introduces
Searchin´ as from Quireboys´ second album even though it's from their third album. however, it's all in the name of Rock N´Roll.
For the last song the band brings out 3 nice ladies to help with backing vocals for
I Don´t Love you anymore and they stay for a loose version of
Sex Party as the final encore.
The bonus features are nothing special. "On the Road" segment is pretty weak with a studio track accompanied by visual performance from a big outdoor festival. Furthermore there is a video, which the band shot for their charity single "Tears in Heaven" along with one song from The London Guitar show.
Overall this is a great live performance and the sound is excellent. Quireboys is a live band and therefore this product is highly recommendable.
