Band Profile

What is your name and your current position in the band?

Johan Liefvendahl. I'm the guitar player.

Tell us about the history of the band. More specifically, when was the band formed, how did you meet, and have there been any particular highlights or low points in your career, any crucial events that have taken you where you are today?

We formed the band in 2000 by Me, Johnny and Andreas. Recorded a couple of demos, managed to get a record deal with Lion Music, released our first album Become and now it's time for our second album Waiting in the wings to be released the 24 of August.

Was there ever a time when you wondered if your band would remain just a local outfit and never make it in the industry?

We're still just a local outfit!

What is your latest album and why should people buy it?

It's called Waiting in the wings and it got nine tracks. The album is recorded by Daniel Flores (minds eye) and mixed by Tommy Hansen (Helloween, TNT). If you buy it I'll guarantee that you won't be disappointed.

How would you categorize the style of the band? And did you ever consider or try playing other styles of music than the one(s) you are playing now?

We play melodic progressive metal with main focus on great melodies.
If we where only doing it for the money we probably would play top 40 music.
But since we all follow our hearts, it ended up being metal.

Can you share with us one or two of your favourite moments with the band?

For all band the highest moment must be to get a record deal.
But for me it was when we discovered our new singer Tommy Karevik.

How is the writing process in the band?

We arrange every song together but often someone have come up with the main idea.

What brought you on the path to becoming a musician? Did you ever consider or take any other paths through life besides music?

Fore me it was an easy choice. Music is the only thing I know. I never have been good at sports so I found the right path quite early.

Do you have any idols? If yes, who?

I listen to a lot of different things. I really like melodic rock/metal. For ex TNT, Mr big Extreme, Talisman. A little bit different from the Seventh Wonder style but I think that is what makes our music so interested. Since we all listen to so different bands.

Do you have any regrets looking back at your career? For example any songs or even full albums that you regret recording? If so, what made you regret it?

If I'm looking back at my career I don't think I regret anything because when you'll make decisions, you have to have respect for what you thought back then.

Are there particular songs in your catalogue that the fans love but you're not particular fond of yourself?

No. Even if you don't like a song it can be really funny to play it live when you see the audience go wild. But it's always much more fun to play the newest songs and not the ones you wrote 100 years ago.

How important do you rate the lyrical side of your albums?

It's very important. I'm not a big fan of analyse lyrics but I know that some people think it's very important. And if you're going to write a killer album you have to try to please as many as you can. So of course lyrics are very important.

What do you think about the state of the music industry today?

Now a day's it's too much business and not so much about the music. I think that it's very sad that there is so many great musicians that don't get a record deal because the labels only think about the money.

What do you think is the best way to fight music piracy?

The best way to fight the music piracy must be to lower the cd prices. I think that is one of many things you can do to prevent it.

Do you have a life philosophy? If yes, what is it?

Play guitar and drink beer. I'm a very complex person, you know..

Can you describe a typical day in your life?

Hmmm, I start the day with yoga! Just kidding, a typical day for me is all about playing as mush guitar as I can. And drink beer..

What do you like to spend your time with besides music?

Surprise! Drinking beer with my friends.

What's the craziest thing that has ever happened on a tour?

It must have been when Johnnys drums got stolen by an old lady!

You're heading off to live on a deserted island for a couple of years with your portable entertainment system... Which albums, movies or books would you bring? (Max. 3 of each)

I don't read books so I would bring Extremes Pornograffitti (best album ever made), Harem Scarems Mood swings (second best album ever made) and of course Spinal tap. (Don't need an explanation).

What is your favourite joke?

This is a very old one but still very funny:
What do you call a guy who hangs out with musicians?
A Drummer...

Can you tell us about any future plans for you and your band?

Right now we're busy with all promotion work for the release of the album but as soon it's released we hope that we can do some gigs in Europe.

Thanks for answering these questions. Now you are free to write a few lines to our readers.

Thanks for your time and don't forget to check out the new album. Hope you like it...

Johan Liefvendahl
