When it comes to progressive metal, there is no doubt that this music has become saturated with many bands trying to play the game, or in this case the music, play it well that is, providing an identity and musicianship that has something to offer.
Seventh Wonder is a band that has just that, the chops, the songs, and the arrangements that are a wet dream for fans that have the sweet tooth for such technical minded melodies.
Arising from an immediate breakup of Mankind, and being a few years in the making as far as the band's evolution is concerned (not the actual recording process), you have to admit that this recording is quite impressive; and they are doing it for music's sake.
With comparisons of Malmsteen's Rising Force and
Dream Theater being present, as well as elements of dark grind and neo-classical influences brought to the table, the band drives through quick paced tracks such as "
The Damned" and "
Day by Day" (adding some power metal fodder to the disc) and produce sophisticated moody passages such as "
The Secret" and "
Like Him" where the record that encompasses upon a snapshot of technical endurance and diversity.
Very much in the vein of bands such as
Vox Tempus and Circus Maximus, with the "back to basics" approach to prog-metal, they leave the headroom for guitar solos and keyboard interludes to be content to what the song's musical structure provides with the perfect amount of arpeggios and soundscapes, showing that they will be more than just a face in the crowd.
