| Friday, February 11, 2011 - Pyramaze Part Ways With Guitarist And Bassist | Danish/American metallers Pyramaze have parted ways with guitarist Michael Kammeyer and bassist Niels Kvist.
Commented Kammeyer: "I have for a long time now struggled to find the mental surplus as well as the sheer time to put into the large endeavor that Pyramaze has become.
Back when I created the band in 2002, my private and professional life looked a lot different than it does today, and it has become increasingly taxing on me to find the energy that is needed to do all the stuff that I have to do. In fact, it has become difficult to the point where it's not justifiable anymore.
I have had to take a long hard look at what I must do, to avoid a mental meltdown, and, unfortunately, I have had to make a hard decision - in fact, probably the hardest decision I've ever had to make. I feel the time has come to stop my journey with Pyramaze.
The band has been a very important part of my life for the last 8-9 years. I've built it from scratch, and I've been working my ass off to get Pyramaze to where it is now. So it is truly with a heavy heart that I now close this chapter.
However, Pyramaze will go on. Jonah (Weingarten, keyboards), Urban (Breed, vocals), Toke (Skjønnemand, guitar) and Morten (Gade Sørensen, drums) have decided to carry on, and it is with a sense of comfort that I now leave the rudder in their capable hands. They are all great musicians, and I'm convinced they have some tricks up their sleeves in the songwriting department. I therefore hope that all of our awesome fans will continue to support Pyramaze.
I want to thank everyone who has helped the band through the years, fans as well as friends, family and business partners. I have always greatly appreciated your support. But most of all, thanks to my band brothers, who have made Pyramaze special to me.
I hope the songs that I've written will continue to inspire, continue to put a smile on your faces and continue to make you raise your metal fists to the sky shouting Pyramaze!"
Added Jonah Weingarten: "This is a truly a sad day for Pyramaze, with Michael and Niels announcing their departure. You will both be missed, and, of course, remain my lifetime friends. You have both made a tremendous mark on establishing Pyramaze as an institution in the underground power/heavy metal world. I love and respect you both as though you were my own blood brothers. You guys have created so many memories that I will cherish forever. I speak for all of us when I say these things.
"With that said, Pyramaze will carry forth, and the remaining members will carry the task of songwriting and orchestrating band responsibilities. | Thursday, February 4, 2010 - Pyramaze - Limited 12 inch Immortal Picture Disc Announced | Pyramaze are proud to announce the release of a limited 12" picture disc edition of our latest album "Immortal". The release date is set to March 26th, and the edition is strictly limited to 250 copies. This release also marks the beginning of a new cooperation with Swedish metal label Inner Wound Recordings.
Inner Wound Recordings have also taken over the further distribution of the regular Immortal album, after our previous label was not able to fulfil their obligations anymore. Inner Wound Recordings is a division of Ulterium Records, and this company is well known for their integrity and close contact with the bands and the customers. They are in the music business for the music, which is exactly what Pyramaze is all about. The release of this limited edition vinyl is the final tribute to the Immortal chapter and our time with Matt. After this we will focus solely on new material again. Hey Pyrawarriors!
Time truly flies, and i realize it's been a long time since I've posted any real news or updates about Pyramaze. Well, let me start by saying that Pyramaze is still around, and the long silence does not mean that we have pulled the plug or split up -although many bands in our situation might have done so long ago.. More about that later.
First let me say that we truly appreciate your fan mails, your guest book messages and your continues support. Thank you! Now i think it's time for some updates. Pyramaze has had many ups and downs during 2008/2009. We've had the honour of working with Matt Barlow who has become a good friend, our latest album Immortal has sold really well, and we've toured Denmark with Volbeat exposing us to a large and broad audience. We have gained many new fans and have been featured in large metal publications particularly in Europe, which has been very good for our publicity.
These were some of the good things. But Pyramaze has also been experiencing rough seas, which have slowed down many things considerably. As all of you know Matt decided to go back to Iced Earth back in 2008 (the positive outcome from this was getting Urban breed onboard, and we are very happy about that) but it's no secret that originally the plan was for Matt to stay in the band. Matt's decision caused many promoters and publications to question our future - and who can blame them. But with Urban breed onboard the vocalist quality of Pyramaze is definitely still there 110 percent! Our tour with Volbeat also ended less than desirable - because we had to cancel the last shows due to an illness of Michael Poulsen of Volbeat. Ergo we could not get paid and we could not sell any merchandise which should have covered our touring expenses. That deficit has left it's mark on the band-account for sure. Last but not least our record label has gone bankrupt a couple of months back and they owe us a big pile of money for Immortal which we will probably never see. Money that should have helped cover our tour deficit and recording expenses. I've been struggling with the owner of our "former" record label for a long time to try and make arrangements and get our money, but it's like banging a fist into a brick wall. So the joy of making music and being creative has been overclouded by business issues and money problems.
I'm not going to bore you with details, but let me just say that dealing with all of that crap has taken too much of my energy and my time. Mind you all of this is still something that i have had to deal with in my spare time. As most of you know Pyramaze is a working class metal band. This means I have a normal job 40 hours a week, and when i get home it's time to be a husband and a father -which i truly love and will not put aside for anything. I hope this can put the "time flies" remark a bit in perspective, and all of this has slowed down the song writing process a lot. And I'm not the only busy guy in the band. Most of my band brothers have tons of stuff going on private and job-wise. But this does not mean that we have given up on Pyramaze. It just means that things take a lot longer than they used to. I do work on new material -but i do so when i feel like it, and i will take my time. Good art can not be rushed, and i think we have a lot of expectations to live up to.
So to all of you faithful fans - you will hear more great metal from Pyramaze, but i can not promise any deadlines of any sort. When we are ready we are ready, and you will be the first to know. There are great songs yet to be song, and great stories yet to be told! With these words i wish you a beautiful December, a merry Christmas and a happy New year.

Dear friends
After auditioning some really good singers during the last couple of months, we have finally found a new band-brother -none other than singer extraordinaire Urban breed (ex-Tad Morose) has joined our ranks, and we are all very excited. Urban is well known for his powerful voice, stage presence and great diversity. We welcome Urban into the band, and we hope that our fantastic fans will approve of this choice too. Trust us when we say there's no one better to fill out the big shoes left by his predecessors. To those of you who do not know Urban yet, I would like to encourage you to check out the MP3's at the end of this announcement - this is just a little taste of what Urban sounds like. Please note - the songs are NOT new Pyramaze songs, but material from Urban's past recordings. Thanks for your attention, and now on to a statement from Urban himself.

| Saturday, December 22, 2007 - Pyramaze statement regarding Matthew Barlow | Statement from Matt and Michael of Pyramaze:
Brothers and Sisters,
In light of recent events, it is rather apparent that I need to address what's going on in my life as it pertains to Pyramaze and Iced Earth. As I'm sure you're aware, last week, my wife gave birth to our second son. We are all doing well, but it has taken a little time to get my thoughts together following that and the announcement of my return to Iced Earth. After Michael's statement, it became very clear to me that I must come to terms with the fact that I can not be in all places at all times. Obviously, there are some of you who had the same concerns. It just took me a little longer to figure that out. Well, the point is, I contacted Michael and let him know that I very much wanted to perform on the record, but that I would not be able to continue on with the band in a full time position as planned. I pointed out to Michael that I was extremely grateful to him and the rest of the guys for bringing me on board and I felt obligated to be up front with him on this. I did not want to do the record and then back out, leaving things on bad terms. Understandably, Michael was disappointed but ultimately understanding of the situation. Pyramaze is an extremely talented group of musicians, who's work is well known in the progressive metal community and will be in high demand in a short time. I am happy to say that I will be working with them, if only in a limited term. The music that Michael has written is going to make for a kick ass heavy metal record (KAHMR) and I give you my word that I will give everything that I've got to insure that. Thanks for your time...you'll hear from us soon!

Hello friends,
As you can all read in Matt's statement, the term of our cooperation has changed due to the fact that he's back in Iced Earth. When Matt approached me with his thoughts and decisions, we had the choice of A. Letting Matt go and finding another singer right away, or B. record this album as planned and with the singer for whom the music was written. Matt let us know that he was still very hooked on recording this album with us, but that he would understand and respect our final decision, should we wish to terminate our cooperation right away. After discussing this with my band brothers we came to the conclusion that we've started the journey of recording our new album together with Matt, and we will finish this album together with him. After we have completed this new album Matt is going to be concentrating solely on Iced Earth again. So this will be a onetime cooperation between Pyramaze and Matt, and this album will be one for the books. We all understand and respect Matt's decision, and there's no bad blood here at all. Matt is a genuinely nice guy with a honest heart, and we are proud to be working with him. I will also encourage you to read Matt's other statement at www.icedearth.com to give you some more insight in the situation. I guess now is a good time to reveal the cover for our new album which is called IMMORTAL. Let me also take this opportunity to wish you all a merry Christmas and a rocking new year. Statement from Michael Kammeyer:
I'm very happy to finally announce our new singer.
Matthew Barlow (former vocalist of the American metal band Iced Earth) will be taking over the job as Pyramaze vocalist. I've been in dialogue with Matt about his comeback for a few months now, and after we've been getting to know each other better and doing a few test demos where Matt has re-recorded a couple of our old songs, we've come to the conclusion that we are a perfect match.
I've always regarded Matt as one of the very best voices in metal, and i was (as any other fan of his incredible voice) saddened by his departure from the metal scene a few years ago. Therefore I'm proud to say that Matt is back, stronger than ever, and from now on officially a part of the Pyramaze Fellowship.
We are currently in a song-writing mode, and we expect to enter the studio early 2008 with Matt behind the mic. I hope and believe that old as well as new fans will welcome Matt into the Pyramaze line-up. I now leave you with these great news, and with Matt's statement below.

Statement from Matthew Barlow:
Brothers and sisters... The last time I made a statement to the metal community it was one of sorrow but certainly not one of regret. There are people, things and experiences - once not thought possible - that I have attained in the last several years. It's an extension of friends and family that has truly made my life whole, and one that I would not jeopardize for fame and glory.
That thought in mind, I was posed an interesting proposition by a true talent in heavy metal. Honestly, I had not heard a lot about Pyramaze, when I received an e-mail from Michael. After our initial correspondence I began to realize that this was a guy that really had his head in the right place - a musician who was in music for the music. Michael spoke to me of his band - a bunch of guys who want to put out solid music but would not sacrifice their souls to attain greatness. This is by no means a slam on I.E. or any of the great musicians I have worked with in the past. It simply means that the music industry can suck you in, chew you up, and spit you out if you don't keep firmly planted on the ground. Pyramaze are working class metal heads with something to prove! Metal is what they live for but it is not their livelihood.
Needless to say, I was instantly intrigued by Michael's delivery. Especially considering the nature of my career choice of late. I wondered if Michael had really thought the courting process through. I'm sure that there are some people that never really understood my reasons for leaving the industry and certainly don't like who or what i represent in my current vocation. There is also the fact that Pyramaze has been rather stereotyped as a prog-metal act and I as Satan / Paul Stanley. What kind of crazy mixed up world is this????
Well... The way I see it... I'm in a point in my life, where I love what I do for a living and for the first time, I can support myself and my family doing it. Now for the other great thing... That's how this band thinks. There is no expectation of co-signing (under the name Mephistopheles) in order to have your record sell. The record will sell if the music is great. The music will be great, because the guys doing it, want to do it... For all the right reasons. Pyramaze has proven that!
I sense hesitation... And rightly so... After all, there are a lot of I.E. fans out there that still just don't get it. I would imagine that there are also Pyramaze fans that love what Mr. King did for this band. Hell, I love what he did for this band! I think that the guy is a true talent and feel the same about Tim Owens (that's Ripper to you!). I also feel, that in the same way I.E. fans have taken Tim into the fold, I too can find a place within the Pyramaze family. I would venture to say that Pyramaze, already unique and uncompromising, will not be placed inside of a prog-metal box once the sparks start flying.
I am really looking forward to working with Michael and the guys!!! I also look forward to hearing feedback from the brethren and sisterhood of metal.

Due to personal and professional reasons occurred over the past couple of months we have decided to part ways with vocalist Lance King.
We would like to thanks Lance for the time he was a part of the band, and his great performance on our 2 albums as well as on our gigs. We wish him the best of luck for the future.
This split might come as a shock to our fans, but be assured that Pyramaze is very much alive and well. In fact the songwriting for our third album has already begun, and as always Michael Kammeyer is responsible for the songwriting. As you may remember, the music was all recorded for the first disc, before Lance was brought in to deliver his vocals, so nothing will really change in the band except who is going to be behind the microphone. Pyramaze will stay Pyramaze, and the third album will slay you all!
Pyramaze is currently communicating with a vocalist who is very interested in being a part of the Pyramaze line up, and should this work out you are all in for a HUGE surprise!
We all view this as a possibility for an even better future for the band, rather than a step down. We realize that Lance will be a hard man to replace, but we're very confident in our music and our team-spirit.
Let's finally state that we're not happy with the way this parting-of-ways was communicated out. When we informed Lance that we had to let him go he asked for us to not send out any statement until he had a chance to comment on it. So we were waiting for his reply when he himself made a public statement. This is not the way to do it, and it really saddens us to have to go out at this stage with our own press release.
Nevertheless, we are ready to face the future and we're very much looking forward to what's in store for Pyramaze.

| Thursday, November 9, 2006 - Lance King quits Pyramaze | Due to "irreconcilable differences," Lance King will no longer be singing with PYRAMAZE.
Commented Lance: "I would like to thank the PYRAMAZE guys for many wonderful memories. I'm very proud of the music we created together! I wish each and every member of the band success in their careers and personal lives, as well as their search for a new vocalist. I look forward to hearing their new music."
Lance has several projects that he is working on at present to be on the lookout for:
* A New album from AVIAN that Lance will be singing on and producing.
* Lance will be making a vocal appearance (splitting vocals with a female opera singer) on the debut release from a rising prog act SALINOCH being developed by SHK Records (Switzerland).
* Lance has agreed to lend his voice and writing talents to a new progressive-shred project called SECRET SOCIETY OF STARFISH comprised of two members of DIMENSION X (bass and drums) and shredder Troy Stetina on guitar and a mystery fifth arm of the fish, a well-known rock star axe player.
* Lance will continue to work daily on building his record company Nightmare Records, bringing the world great progressive/power metal music from other great bands.
Look out for other recent releases that Lance sang on: SHINING STAR's "Enter Eternity" and AVIAN's "From the Depths of Time".

| Monday, December 13, 2004 - Pyramaze competition | Danish power metallers, Pyramaze, are now holding a contest on their official forum to find the "craziest metal fan out there". Basically what you do is take a picture of you looking the most metal you can, in the most metal pose possible, and post it on the official forum. The contest will be running though Christmas, and the winner will be announced sometime right after Christmas. Now, what's in it for you? Well, the winner will recieve a Pyramaze t-shirt and a copy of their debut cd, Meloncholy Beast, courtesy of Nightmare Records and Pyramaze. And if the picture is really good, we might throw in something a little extra. The only rules are, no Photoshopping or editing of pictures, except for size, and the winner must provide another random picture of our choosing with them in it to prove they are the one in the picture and not just a random picture found somewhere. This is just our way from Pyramaze and Nightmare Records to say thanks to the fans who have supported us along the way, and Merry Christmas.

Band profile
 What is your name and your current position in the band?
I'm Michael Kammeyer and I am the guitarist and songwriter.
Tell us about the history of the band. More specifically, when was the band formed, how did you meet, and have there been any particular highlights or low points in your career, any crucial events that have taken you where you are today?
It started when I wanted to create a new band, and write a full album to see where it would take us back in 2002, which lead to our first release 'Melancholy Beast'. Morten (drums) and Niels (bass) were the first two persons I approached with my ideas, and they both liked it, so they jumped on the wagon. They are both from DK, and live close to my town, so this was brilliant. I already knew Morten before I approached him with the material, so we go way back before Pyramaze was created. He is a fantastic drummer, and a great person, so it was obvious for me to choose him. The reason for why I approached Niels was, that I heard him perform at a local festival once, and his skills just blew me away. I managed to get his phone number from a friend, and called him to make my offer. He said yes at once, without any questioning and stuff, so that was quite easy :-)
And now for the guys from USA. I found Jonah (keys) because he had made an advertisement on the Wacken Open Air homepage, where he offered his skills to bands out there. I mailed him, telling him about my ideas, and he was in to it from the beginning. We exchanged some promo material, to see if our skills were matching, and so they were. I loved his style, and he liked what I was doing too, so we agreed to do this. Jonah flew to Denmark in January 2003, and the four of us (Lance (vocal) and Toke (guitar) were not onboard yet) spent 12 days in the studio recording all the instruments.
Actually from the beginning I wanted to do the vocals myself, but after the 12 days in the studio I had to re-book for the recording of the vocals, since there was no more time left for that. But before this happened Intromental management got to hear the material, and they loved it. We decided to join forces, and this opened a whole new world for us. Suddenly I was able to choose a professional vocalist, which was more experienced than me, because of Intromental's great contacts, so I decided to do this.
They sent me 5 or 6 promos with different vocalists, and Lance was the only one who really stood out. We then contacted him to hear if he was available, and sent him the material. He loved it and agreed to become a part of this. Toke came onboard in 2004 when we had our first run of live shows, and after the gigs we decided to make him a permanent member. The highlights in my career so far is basically just releasing two full length albums and being happy with the outcome. Was there ever a time when you wondered if your band would remain just a local outfit and never make it in the industry?
Since everything went really quick for us, I did not have the time to really think about it. We went for it with full force and a lot of focus, so I did not experience much doubts back then.
What is your latest album and why should people buy it?
Our new one is called 'Legend of the Bone Carver and it's a concept album. People should buy it if they like big epic stories, kick ass riffs, lots of melody and an orchestral touch. We really put a lot of work into this album, and I think the outcome is fantastic.
How would you categorize the style of the band? And did you ever consider or try playing other styles of music than the one(s) you are playing now?
We are somewhere in the area of power-prog-epic-melodic heavy metal ha-ha! That's the best I can put it. I never felt like playing anything else.
Can you share with us one or two of your favourite moments with the band?
One of them must definitely be the studio time we had during the recording of the last album. We had lots of fun. 16 days of living together under the same roof really makes the personalities of each band member come out, for the better or the worse. Luckily for Pyramaze this was for the better ;-)
How is the writing process in the band?
I do the main music composing and all of the lyric writing in the band. When everything is prepared for an album we then arrange it together in the rehearsal room. Lance does his own vocal melodies, and I just approve them every time he's done with a song. Every band member gives his own input with his respective instrument, and on the new album Jonah had a lot of influence with his orchestral arrangements.
What brought you on the path to becoming a musician? Did you ever consider or take any other paths through life besides music?
Well, the choice for me was always either music or fly a fighter plane ha-ha! Since I became too tall for a fighter plane I just kept on working on my music skills. I've been wanting to play music ever since I heard Bon Jovi's 'Slippery When Wet' back in '93.
Do you have any idols? If yes, who?
I would say Peter Jackson, simply because he's so enthusiastic about what he does, and he really strives for perfection.
Do you have any regrets looking back at your career? For example any songs or even full albums that you regret recording? If so, what made you regret it?
No - I have no regrets.
Are there particular songs in your catalogue that the fans love but you're not particular fond of yourself?
Since I love all our songs, I can't really relate to that.
How important do you rate the lyrical side of your albums?
Very important. I always put a lot of work into the lyrics, and I appreciate it very much when I get fan mail from someone who has actually read the entire booklet and loves the lyrics.
What do you think about the state of the music industry today?
I think the market is flooded with to many shitty bands, which makes it hard for the consumer to pick the ones with real talent. It seems that many smaller record labels are popping up every day, and they very quickly sign young bands and squeeze the "money machine".
What do you think is the best way to fight music piracy?
I don't think it can be fought. There will always be "rotten eggs" who make sure there are illegal copies out there, and as long as that's the case there's always going to be people who buy or download.
Do you have a life philosophy? If yes, what is it?
Just to live every day as good as possible.
Can you describe a typical day in your life?
I get up at 6.45 am and get ready for my daytime job. I work as a shipping manager in a company 15 minutes away from my house. I start at 8 am and get off work again around 4 pm. Then I either drive home and spend the night with music, television, reading or something else - or I go to the gym, which I do three times a week. In the summertime I also love to ride my motorcycle after work, and my wife and I like to cruise around until we find a nice place in nature where we can have a little dinner.
What do you like to spend your time with besides music?
Reading, watching movies, riding my motorcycle, going to the gym, taking long walks in the forest -oh, and eating ;-)
What's the craziest thing that has ever happened on a tour?
Since we have never had a "real" tour there's not really any of those crazy tour stories that I would describe as juicy ha-ha! I guess we still have that waiting for us ;-)
You're heading off to live on a deserted island for a couple of years with your portable entertainment system... Which albums, movies or books would you bring? (Max. 3 of each)

Nasty Idols - Vicious
 "Cruel Intention" is considered Nasty Idols' finest work. The follow-up "Vicious" didn't receive as much attention when it was released in October 1993 since the times were changing.
