"All the Right Reasons" completes a trilogy of super albums from Canadian
Nickelback
Nickelback seem to have found a golden formula for writing Hard Rock songs with a melodic twist. The first single
Photograph sounds a lot like
Someday in structure and instrumentation. The hit formula contains an acoustic guitar for the verse and electric guitars for the up tempo sing-along chorus. In August
Nickelback pre-viewed
Photograph at a very special promotion concert in Hamburg and the song works well live.
The best rockers on the disc are the opening tune
Follow You Home and the title track
Fight For All The Wrong Reasons. Both have the characteristic thick
Nickelback guitar sound that is much harder than other mainstream bands. The up-tempo songs have redeeming melodic elements in usual
Nickelback fashion
The album opens with a heavy bombardment of rockers. On the last part the album gets out of breath and leaves more room for the mellow songs.
Nickelback's core competency is definitely the commercial big anthem ballads.
For certain
Savin' Me is an up-coming single. The song has "hit" written all over it. The moody power ballad builds up for a bombastic ending with all instruments that have been featured in the song playing at once. The guitar solo from Ryan Peake is the best on the album.
Far Away will become a hit as well. "All the Right Reasons" is typical
Nickelback but still the band has left room for a couple of new things.
Nickelback have experimented with strings and introduces piano on another big ballad;
If Everyone cared. The song
has a fantastic chorus and just highlights
Nickelback's strong ability for writing a hit ballad perfectly suited for big stadiums and radio.
"All the Right Reasons" have a few standard tracks on it as well. The rocking
Next Contestant and
Side Of A Bullet, which deals with the tragic killing of Pantera's Dimebag Darrel.
Nickelback got permission to use one of Dimebag solos on this song.
"All the Right Reasons brings
Nickelback right back into the game where they left off 2 years ago - on top of the throne as stadium rockers mixing Heavy Rock with lots of hooks and melodies that sticks like super glue
