Brides Of
Destruction is back with their second album. Replacing Nikki Sixx on bass is former Amen bassist Scott Sorry. Now Tracii Guns must be considered the undisputed leader of the band
After the atmospheric intro
Aunt Biente,
Lords of the Mind is a mellow opener compared to the punky material on "Here Come the Brides". Brides have worked more on trying to capture a moody emotion on this song than just blasting out snotty punk rock. The same goes for
Criminal, which is among the best songs because of the emotion and also since London's vocals sound beefed up.
Overall singer London LeGrand is the weak point. His vocals are too low in the mix and in general powerless. The vocals cannot match the massive bombardment of guitar, bass and drums.
Overall, the material sounds like second or third rate Punk Hard Rock. The first single
White Trash totally lacks melodic appeal. The staccato rhythm somehow reminds me of
Green Day's
Minority
When you play "Runaway Brides" from beginning to end you become bored after a handful of songs. Even though
Brothers is an approved song, it drowns in weak material.
Never Say Never is another song that ranks among the best songs on the album. The music is good and for once Brides have come up with a decent chorus. London LeGrand high pitches on the chorus, but I will never become a fan of his vocals.
Tracii is a great guitarist and I hate to see him waste his talent in
Brides of Destruction. After the disappointing "Here Come the Brides" I was looking forward to a killer album from this band. Unfortunately Brides have changed for the worse and I am pretty sure that this album will receive tough criticism from both press and fans.
Even though Andy Johns is behind the mixer
Brides of Destruction on purpose has made the album sound garage.
I wasn't fond of the first Brides record but it had a few good songs on it. I was hoping "Runaway Brides" would be the record that took it further and was constructed on the good notes of the last album.
Approach this album with caution!
