Somewhere between the L.A. Sunset strip Sleaze metal and American mainstream rock lies Naked, who takes the name of their first record from the infamous phrase used in the satirical movie we all know and love so much, known as
(This is) Spinal Tap.
You can tell that the influence of 80's hair metal bands is present, Guns & Roses and Motley Crue, but yet there is too much of a element of the modern day "MTV sound" present with too many hints of Good
Charlotte and The Darkness.
They have the right idea with their hook-ridden tracks, being able to ponder upon anthem choruses found in tracks such as "
68," "
Look at Me," and "
Empty Heart," displaying the songwriting skills heavily partial to 80's rock, even the guitar soloing is fairly up to par with the appropriate style, with catchy riffs here and there, pondering upon a pretentious sloppiness that was present in all of our favorite pop metal acts. They even try their hand at a more eased paced cut, "
K.H.S.L," which comes close to being a ballad, but there isn't enough "sugar coat," and that is probably something that these guys really didn't want in this song anyways, but they did put some emotion into it.
Most of the material is fairly straightforward with the same churning beats, while frontman The Muff seems to have the personality, vocal wise, to front this group. These guys are going in the right direction, they are good musicians, but when it comes to this record in general, there seems to be a lack of rawness that really would have given more edge to this record.
