Band Profile

Please give us an introduction of Charlotte and the members.

Hey, whats up everyone. I'm Eric Ganz, vocalist for Charlotte.
On guitar is Vinnie Cacciotti and Nick DiBacco.
Our solid rhythm section is Chris Colovas on Bass and Eric D. Brewton on the Drums

Tell us about the history of the band. More specifically, when was the band formed, how did you meet, and have there been any particular highlights or low points in your career, any crucial events that have taken you where you are today?

We met and formed in Los Angeles, CA and played there in the late '80s to mid '90s. After dis-banding and playing with other groups, we are glad to say Charlotte is back for the attack. The whole ride is high points and low points, like a roller-coaster. I would say that the inception of the internet is what got us exposed initially to the mass millions.

Was there ever a time when you wondered if your band would remain just a local outfit and never make it in the industry?

You try to keep the faith as much as you can. Once you start thinking 'locally' you start sounding 'local'.

Please tell a bit about "Medusa Groove" and why should people buy it?

We feel our music has a timeless quality to it that allows all generations of rockers to enjoy. We play from the gut and we never compromise our sound. And it just flat out kicks ass. Our label, Eonian Records, really has an ear for good music and is very good at getting the best production possible.

How would you categorize the style of the band? And did you ever consider or try playing other styles of music than the one(s) you are playing now?

We are plain and simple a Hard Rock band. Our influences range from '70s rock to blues to jazz to metal so there are some good sounds filtering in at all times while keeping a cohesive sound within ourselves. Me personally, I could see one day being a blues singer or a poet in some swanky nightclub with dollar-dancers!

Can you share with us one or two of your favourite moments with the band?

Its all one, long, favorite moment. its really hard to pinpoint one or two but I would say the bigger the crowd, the more exciting it is.

How is the writing process in the band?

We all work together on a song idea that one of us comes up with and I write all the lyrics.

What brought you on the path to becoming a musician? Did you ever consider or take any other paths through life besides music?

I think musicians are born musicians, I really do. No I have never considered anything else except that I write poetry as well. I think i would like to write a novel someday. Our guitarist, Vinnie Cacciotti, is an incredible artist, you can check out his paintings/work online.

Do you have any idols? If yes, who?

Idolatry can be a scary word. I am inspired by individuals who stay their path and hold true to themselves, whether its Babe Ruth, Jim Morrison, or a young, pretty girl at a coffee shop who refuses to stop scratching her name into the table every time she visits.

Do you have any regrets looking back at your career?

It is better to regret doing something than not doing something.

Are there particular songs in your catalogue that the fans love but you're not particular fond of yourself?

I think we like our more recent music the most, but all the songs have a quality to them that we enjoy.

How important do you rate the lyrical side of your songs?

Very important. There are no 'token' words. I consider the lyrics the true, verbal expression of the music behind them, not just something to fill the void. Also, you want people to remember and sing along.

What do you think about the state of the music industry today?

Better in the sense that a lot of otherwise undiscovered talent is being noticed via the internet, etc... Worse in the sense that a lot of crap is making its way through via the internet, etc...
It is great that artists do not have to depend solely upon corporate-minded record companies anymore. Overall there is more originality, I think.

What do you think is the best way to fight music piracy?

Oh man, that is a touchy subject. You can not get too crazy fighting it. My message is please try to support the arts as much as you can. Why would anyone want to steal from people who they feel are giving them the experience of great music? Money isn't everything and listeners of music should consider the potential effects it has on the musicians. Would you want someone every day coming into the place where you work and saying, 'Hey how are ya ? I really like your work so I am stealing another part of your paycheck today' ? Money isn't everything but we all have our due that we earn.

Do you have a life philosophy? If yes, what is it?

One moment at a time, don't let it slip. The only way to be truly alive is through first-hand experience. This is how you invoke the dark gods.

Can you describe a typical day in your life?

I don't think any of my days are typical!

What do you like to spend your time with besides music?

Poetry. A lot of outdoor stuff. I don't like sitting at a computer or TV all the time. Climb a mountain at least once in your life.

What's the craziest thing that has ever happened on a tour?

I think one of them might be when Chris, our Bass player, and I were sitting in a car waiting for the rest of the guys when two women, maybe prostitutes, opened the doors on each side of the car, reached in, grabbed us by our Johnsons and wouldn't let go, saying, 'You boys are coming with us!!!' They weren't exactly what we were looking for so we started the car and slowly drove away until they released us. We couldn't drive off too fast, what with our peckers in their hands. Ouch!

You're heading off to live on a deserted island for a couple of years with your portable entertainment system... Which albums, movies or books would you bring? (Max. 3 of each)

albums: The Doors (first album), Miles Davis 'Kind Of Blue', Led Zeppelin 'Physical Graffiti'
movies: 2001 Space Odyssey, American Psycho, Apocalypse Now
books: Brave New World by Aldous Huxley, Thus Spoke Zarathustra by Friedrich Nietzsche, Steppenwolf by Hermann Hesse

Charlotte finally gets an album released. Are there any plans to reform? Can you tell us about any future plans for the band?

yes we are planning shows starting in California, USA

Thanks for answering these questions. Now you are free to write a few lines to our readers.

'Thanks everyone. Always let rock and roll fill your soul and don't whistle while you are pissing.'
