Mercenary - 11 Dreams
"11 "Dreams marks the fourth release from these Danish Power Thrash Melodeath masters and the 1st release on reigning King of metal labels ye ole Century Media.

A schizophrenic album to say the least, jumping from style to style on just about every song.
Track 2 "World Hate Center", which is actually the first song on the album, track #1 being an intro really, is a song that reminds me of the last Hypocrisy album. Fast, heavy, with Tatgren like vocals until clean singer Mikkel Sandager chimes in bringing an Into Eternity vocal style with layered harmonies and everything. He also rips a huge Rob Halford scream several rounds in track #5 "Firesoul". This guy will be respected for years to come...he is so damn diverse in his abilities...incredible!

Fans of Evergrey take note...there is a lot of that majestic type heavy but somber melody going on in these songs. With that you'll hear Hypocrisy, like I said, in the music and growler Kral's vocals.
A King Diamond like creepy lullaby lilting through track #6 "Sharpen The Edges" finds itself providing color to an otherwise dark song complete with a symphonic feeling black metal nodding core. This is one of my favorites on the album and with "World Hate Center" marks the album's most diverse tracks. While the majority of the songs stick to huge chorus manipulations of the Evergrey vein. Very epic album...really 'big' sound to it.... no doubt an expensive album but well worth the result. Toss in some artwork from none other than Niklas Sundin and you have a near perfect package.

My only nit pick will be of the Kent cover "Music Non Stop" which ruins the flow of the album by raising it's ugly head at track #8 of an 11 song disc. Here's a clue: Covers always go at the end of an album...always! Even so it is a minor inconvenience and is not a bad cover...it just is outta place with the rest of the music.

So if you like melodic brutality mix with mid paced classic metal and thrashed up Power metal all wrapped up in a modern Gothenburg steel suit...then by all means...drop your drawers...bend over and take the hit it will cost you to buy this bad boy! "Sharpen The Edges" is worth the price of admission all by itself!
