What is your name and your current position in the band?

Oliver Scheer - Guitars

Tell us about the history of the band. More specifically, when was the band formed, how did you meet, and have there been any particular highlights or low points in your career, any crucial events that have taken you where you are today?

- We play together in this band for more than 10 years now. Five people with different musical background. some old friends tried to get rich and famous ;o)

The highlight of this band was the European tour with Doro back in 2001 and of course the release of our new album SHOTGUN ALLEY. A lot of things went wrong with the marketing of our previous album, CHAMELEONATION, so in the end there was no way we could go on tour. This made us very angry, and our new album emerged from that anger.

Was there ever a time when you wondered if your band would remain just a local outfit and never make it in the industry?

- Not really.that was our plan and we've done everything to reach this goal. But there are some more goals to reach.we´re still working on it ;o)

What is your latest album and why should people buy it?

- The new album is called SHOTGUN ALLEY and as many of the websites and magazines say it is our best album so far and almost every critic is positive. So, I guess so many people can't be wrong ;o) Beside that it is the perfect time to make us finally rich & famous (hehe..)

How would you categorize the style of the band? And did you ever consider or try playing other styles of music than the one(s) you are playing now?

- Heavy guitars, rough and straight with strong melodies. I guess things changed a little bit. We started with some kind of AOR and slightly progressive things. Due to various live experiences on the road with acts like Doro, Nazareth, Steve Lukather, Saga etc. we learned that it is much more effective to play songs with straight rhythms and strong melodies.

Melodies and concerted backings have always been the most important component of our songs, but we learned to write songs much more effective, by going back to the basics of the song without using too many different parts. The new material will be a pleasure to be presented live on stage . .

Can you share with us one or two of your favourite moments with the band?

- The Gigs with Doro in Portugal and Spain. The Fans are so different from the German crowd.Open minded and ready to party up from the very first chord. Great! Every time you made a new record and hold it in your hands when it's finished.that is a fucking great feeling.

How is the writing process in the band?

- Usually one of us is coming to the rehearsal-room with an idea, together we are working on it and in the end it has nothing to do with the original idea ;o)

What brought you on the path to becoming a musician? Did you ever consider or take any other paths through life besides music?

- Girls! As I started makin´ music at the age of 14 I hoped to get some girls because of my rockstar attitude ;o) That was a bad idea (hehe.)!! Actually my brother played guitar so I grabbed it and he showed some "Smoke On The Water" riffs and stuff. If everything changed the music will still remain!!

Do you have any idols? If yes, who?

- Let's call it FAVES:

Oliver Scheer - Guitar
Faves: Queensryche, Toto, Whitesnake, Aerosmith

Steve Lagleder - Bass, Background Vocals
Faves: Deep Purple :-), Marillion

Michael Mehl - Drums, Background Vocals
Faves: Kiss, Van Halen, Elvis

Axel Hoffmann - new Keyboarder (!)
Faves:Toto, Bruce Hornsby, Dream Theater, Tzimon Batko

Gino Naschke - Lead Vox, Background Vocals
Faves: Journey, Toto, White Lion

Do you have any regrets looking back at your career? For example any songs or even full albums that you regret recording? If so, what made you regret it?

- No, everything we've done had its sense. The first album is not as good as the other ones regarding the sound but had also great songs on it.

Are there particular songs in your catalogue that the fans love but you're not particular fond of yourself?

- Hmmm.we don't know.the fans should tell us. One song from the first album is called "Amnesty" and is a favourite song for a lot of our fans. We love this song too but don't play it live.because it's a little bit boring to play.

How important do you rate the lyrical side of your albums?

- Very important. There are so many things happening around us and everything is part of the 'lyrical universe'. Especially this time I had a lot of people around us who seemed to have problems with the fact of getting older, so Gino (singer) wrote some songs about it . . . He couldn't stand the chance to write something special about the talents of an American leader . . . society, of course, is always a topic . . .

What do you think about the state of the music industry today?

- Too much boring music and very bad radio stations, especially here in Germany. The Industry had so many problems with the new technical developments that they don't have the time to keep an eye on new talented musicians. There are some good new bands like Audioslave but not many. The whole casting show crap is disgusting .

What do you think is the best way to fight music piracy?

- Added values like videos, photos, lyrics and more right on the CD. But to be honest, in former times everybody taped the music and nobody gave a shit.now it is the same situation in better quality.

Do you have a life philosophy? If yes, what is it?

- Get rich & famous ;o) O.K., I guess the main point is to be true to yourself.pass the things you don't like, life's too short for that.

Can you describe a typical day in your life?

- No, there is no typical day. That's what I meant. O.K., I like to have breakfast, that's important for me and a good start.

What do you like to spend your time with besides music?

- Watch some Movies or listen to other music. Playing with my son or his mother ;o)

What's the craziest thing that has ever happened on a tour?

- Ohh, we had a bus driver without driving licence caught by the police.and we have many of those stories ready for a book or a movie.

You're heading off to live on a deserted island for a couple of years with your portable entertainment system... Which albums, movies or books would you bring? (Max. 3 of each)

Music:
Queensryche - Operation Mindcrime
Whitesnake - 1987
Toto - Live

Movies:
Fifth Element
Spiderman
Equilibrium

Books:
Der Schwarm
Das Parfum
Die Prophezeiungen von Celestine

What is your favourite joke?

- Why are so many guitarists jokes one liners ?
So the rest of the band can understand them

..."very funny!!" (Steve, Bass Guitar)

Can you tell us about any future plans for you and your band?

- Within the last weeks we had the confirmation for being the opening act for all German shows of the fantastic double headlining tour of DEEP PURPLE and ALICE COOPER. We are going to play 10 shows in Germany in February 2006 in venues with capacities of 7.000 -10.000 people. We are really happy about that and looking forward to entering the stages . . . And we hope to continue with touring the rest of Europe.

Thanks for answering these questions. Now you are free to write a few lines to our readers.

- Go out and see us on tour. We are looking forward to entering your local stage! In the meantime go and have a look and listen on our homepage www.chalice.de . . . see you!
