| Tuesday, August 16, 2011 - Black Sabbath Reunite With Ozzy Osbourne | Black Sabbath guitarist Tony Iommi has confirmed to Birmingham Mail that the band's original lineup has reunited and is rehearsing for a tour and new studio album.
Iommi and singer Ozzy Osbourne wrote new material in June for a record that will be released next year.
"We're really looking forward to it and I think the stuff we've been writing is really good," said Iommi. "It's more back to the old original stuff."
He also said the the reunion has been kept quiet for a while:
"It's all been very hush-hush. Ozzy's been the worst at trying to hold it back. He's doing a lot of TV and he's being asked stuff about a reunion and he's going, 'Well, I never say never.' He told me, 'I don't know what to say."
Iommi told the Birmingham Mail that his only concern about a reunion of Black Sabbath original lineup was the health of drummer Bill Ward who in 1998 suffered a heart attack.
"He hasn't been 100 percent. He had an operation a few months ago, so we'll see how he is."

| Wednesday, September 15, 2010 - Black Sabbath Announce Seventh Star And Eternal Idol | According to a posting on the Black Sabbath fan site www.black-sabbath.com expanded reissues of the Sabbath albums "Seventh Star" (1986) and "Eternal Idol" (1987) albums, which featured Glenn Hughes (ex-Deep Purple) and Tony Martin on vocals respectively, will be made available in the U.K. on October 25 via Sanctuary/Universal.
The additional tracks on "The Eternal Idol" expanded reissue include "Some Kind Of Woman" and "Black Moon" (demo) on Disc 1. Disc 2 will comprise the entire Ray Gillen version of "The Eternal Idol" album (Gillen quit before the album was finished).

"Heaven and Hell", "Mob Rules" and "Live Evil"
Release date: 5th April 2010
Black Sabbath, one of the most prominent and influential faces of the 70's Rock topography were, by the decade's end, a band in disarray. Once the masters of their own reality; the Birmingham four-piece were now battle weary veterans, wearing the deep scars of a near ten year album-tour-album cycle. Black Sabbath's latest album, Never Say Die!, released in September 1978, would transpire to be their final studio recording with Ozzy Osbourne, who in less than a year, would no longer be with the band.
The loss of the iconic voice might have signalled the end of the band. But, that wasn't to be the case.
Ronnie James Dio, Rainbow's founding lead vocalist whose lion's roar had taken the band to gold and platinum status also parted company with his band. Several phone calls later and a chance meeting in, of all places, the Rainbow Bar & Grill on Sunset Boulevard, West Hollywood, Iommi invited Dio to join the remaining members of Black Sabbath for an impromptu rehearsal. Within fifteen minutes and one brand new song later ('Children Of The Sea'), a new era of Black Sabbath was born.
The resultant album releases over the next few years proved without question, that this match was one without peer and succeeded without question in carrying the name of Black Sabbath (later with Vinnie Appice replacing Bill Ward on drums) proudly into the new decade. With an accompanying soundtrack featuring some of the most exciting and dramatic Heavy Metal to ever grace a studio or stage, Black Sabbath rose once more to a place of highest regard within elite Rock circles.
Such was the chemistry between these players, that two reformations of this Black Sabbath line-up have since been made, the second of which, occurring in 2007, went under the title of that first ground-breaking album, Heaven And Hell, and still survives at the dawn of yet another exciting new decade for Heavy Metal.
"Heaven And Hell" was the first album to be released by the new Black Sabbath lineup of Ronnie James Dio, Tony Iommi, Geezer Butler and Bill Ward, in 1980. It remains one of the most important and influential of Black Sabbath's releases and the deluxe expanded edition comes with a bonus disc of live material.
1981's "Mob Rules" featured largely the same lineup, although Vinnie Appice replaces Bill Ward on drums. The deluxe expanded edition, again, features a bonus disc of live material.
1982's "Live Evil" caught a band at the height of their powers. The classic lineup of Ronnie James Dio, Tony Iommi, Geezer Butler and Vinnie Appice giving a flawless performance.

| Sunday, May 31, 2009 - Ozzy Osbourne sues Tony Iommi over Black Sabbath band name | The New York Post reports:
Rocker Ozzy Osbourne is going off the rails against one of his Black Sabbath bandmates.
The "Godfather of Heavy Metal" claims guitarist Tony Iommi illegally claimed sole ownership of the band's name, in a filing with the US Patent and Trademark Office.
Osbourne is suing Iommi for a 50 percent interest in the "Black Sabbath" trademark, along with a portion of Iommi's profits from use of the name.
The Manhattan federal court suit also charges that Osbourne's "signature lead vocals" are largely responsible for the band's "extraordinary success," noting that its popularity plummeted during his absence from 1980 through 1996.
An official statement from Ozzy reads as follows:
"It is with great regret that I had to resort to legal action against my long term partner, Tony Iommi, but after three years of trying to resolve this issue amicably, I feel I have no other recourse. As of the mid-1990's, after constant and numerous changes in band members, the brand of 'Black Sabbath' was literally in the toilet and Tony Iommi (touring under the name Black Sabbath) was reduced to performing in clubs. Since 1997 when Geezer (Butler), Bill (Ward) and myself rejoined the band, Black Sabbath has returned to its former glory as we headlined sold-out arenas and amphitheatres playing to upwards of 50,000 people at each show around the world. We worked collectively to restore credibility and bring dignity back to the name 'Black Sabbath' which lead to the band being inducted into the UK and US Rock & Roll Hall of Fames in 2005 and 2006, respectively.
Throughout the last 12 years, it was my management representatives who oversaw the marketing and quality control of the 'Black Sabbath' brand through Ozzfest, touring, merchandising and album reissues. The name 'Black Sabbath' now has a worldwide prestige and merchandising value that it would not have had by continuing on the road it was on prior to the 1997 reunion tour.
Tony, I am so sorry it's had to get to this point by me having to take this action against you. I don't have the right to speak for Geezer and Bill, but I feel that morally and ethically the trademark should be owned by the four of us equally. I hope that by me taking this first step that it will ultimately end up that way. We've all worked too hard and long in our careers to allow you to sell merchandise that features all our faces, old Black Sabbath album covers and band logos, and then you tell us that you own the copyright. We're all in our 60's now. The Black Sabbath legacy should live on long after we have all gone. Please do the right thing."
Black Sabbath book author comments on the lawsuit:
Writer and musician Joel Gausten, author of the 2007 book The Sabbath Interviews, has issued the following statement regarding Ozzy Osbourne's newly launched trademark lawsuit against former Black Sabbath bandmateTony Iommi:
"So, the internet is exploding with talk of Ozzy's suit against Iommi. As a massive Black Sabbath fan who's had the honor of interviewing several past and present members over the years, I can't resist commenting on this.
For what it's worth:
Ozzy seeking 50% ownership of a band name he had nothing to do with for 16 years is asinine. As someone who loves the post-Ozzy stuff (like The Eternal Idol) as much, if not often more, than the first eight albums, I'd have to say that the TRUE spirit of Black Sabbath will always be with Iommi.
Also, let's not forget the stellar talent who performed in Sabbath in the post-Ozzy years - especially the great Bob Daisley, Eric Singer, Tony Martin and the late Cozy Powell. They were kicking ass and keeping the band going while Ozzy, Geezer and Bill were doing their own thing. These folks were and remain as vital to Sabbath's history than the original four.
And speaking of Bill... here's a guy who GIVES the money earned by the sale of his CDs to charity. Here's a guy who - despite the fact that he was partly responsible for creating Metal as we know it - never once forgot that, deep down, he's just a working class guy from Aston.

REALLY meant and understood the human spirit behind 'War Pigs', then skip the nonsense spewing on the Internet and go straight to www.billward.com and get a copy of Bill's CD, Straws."
Some of the money from that CD goes to maintain the cleanliness of the Vietnam Memorial, among other good things.

There's been much speculation of a forthcoming Black Sabbath reunion with the original line-up with Ozzy Osbourne at the helm, but founding member Geezer Butler has adamantly denied such rumors.

Other information
Black Sabbath is one of the first, if not the first band to play heavy metal. Even though they are not in the same opinion. Tony Iommy says it is a form of Hard Rock. It is also a tough thing to describe because both labels fit the band. And then again there are elements from both genres in the music.
Black Sabbath is a band with a lot of different line-ups over the years. The original line up is Tony Iommy (guitar) Geezer Butler (bass) Bill Ward (drums) and Ozzy Osbourne (vocals). This line up has offered some of the best music from the band. Albums such as "Black Sabbath" and "Masters Of Reality" are great.

Black Sabbath are slow, boring and Ozzy Osbourne sounds like a shrieking banshee. If you like Black Sabbath, I pity you. Punk is much better, it's fast and the lyrics are about real subjects not 'demons and faeries'.
