Monday, April 21, 2008 - Hammerfall - New guitarist and new releases announced | Pontus Norgren from THE POODLES will be replacing Stefan Elmgren, who left HAMMERFALL in early April to focus on his new career as a pilot/ "Pontus is a fantastic guitar player with musical roots in ACCEPT and neo-classical metal," comments drummer Anders Johansson. "I have know him for many years, I know how he works as a musician and as a person."
"I like Hammerfall, I think they have amazing stage shows and I like their songs, so when I heard they were looking for a guitar player I thought I'd give it a try," says Pontus. "Playing in The Poodles has been a wonderful experience in many ways, but I have always liked a little heavier music and have felt at times that this wasn't the right kind of forum for the music I'd most like to play. It's simply time to move on."
"Replacing Stefan is not easy, he has a very characteristic way of playing and is a great guitarist," explains singer Joacim Cans. "But Pontus will add a different style than Stefan since they are two quite different persons. I'm looking forward to see how we will mesh as a band during the coming months!"
At the moment, Hammerfall has a scheduled gig in Montréal, QC on June 21st (HEAVY MTL Festival) and in July the recordings of a new studio album will begin.
Next HammerFall releases: June 27th
On June 27th, 2008, two new HammerFall releases will see the light of day: a DVD - continuing chronicling the band's career - and a cover CD - a collection of all the covers recorded by HF to date plus three new, unreleased ones. Incidentally, this will be Stefan's last release with HammerFall. Detailed information from www.nuclearblast.de. follows:
Rebels With A Cause - Unruly, Unrestrained, Uninhibited (DVD)
The DVD will be a continuation of the previous two (The First Crusade and The Templar/Renegade Crusades) and contain newly recorded interviews with the band interspersed with footage from their own cameras. The time span is six years, from the beginning of 2002 til the end of 2007, and it's edited together as a documentary of sorts, i.e. one continuous film, but of course with chapters. Also included will be all six promo videos made during the time in question plus some behind the scenes, four professionally filmed live songs from Filderstadt 2005, five TV clips they have purchased the rights to from SVT (the Swedish national television network) and some more home-made stuff as bonus. The complete running time is estimated to 1h 30-1h 45 plus 1h 15-1h 30.

Wednesday, April 2, 2008 - Stefan leaves Hammerfall | In a blog posted on their official myspace page today long serving guitarist Stefan Elmgren has confirmed that he is now no longer a member of Hammerfall. The following was posted on www.myspace.com/hammerfall :
Hello Everybody.
I have decided to leave Hammerfall, the reason is that I have been offered a job as a pilot within an airline. My interest in aviation has been growing very strong, and now I feel its time for me to take a step and be a pilot on a professional level. We have been discussing the possibility of combining the work with HF and both me and the rest of the band realized that it would be very hard indeed.
It has been a great journey with lots of great memories that I will carry with me for the rest of my life, I would like to give a big thanks to all the wonderful fans, its has truly been a pleasure to meet and perform for you all during these 11 years.
I still love to play the guitar so you might hear from me again someday somehow.
I would like to wish who ever is taking my place and the rest of the band good luck in the future.
Take care everybody!!
Stefan Elmgren

Wednesday, April 11, 2007 - Hammerfall - Four becomes five again | The waiting and speculation is over, Magnus has been replaced. The new guy should be no stranger to any HammerFall fan: (re)enter Fredrik Larsson, original member of the band and fugitive for the past decade.
"I am very happy and excited to be back! I have known the guys for more than ten years and we have kept in touch all the time, so it is not as if I come in a complete stranger. We played a few songs together last weekend, and it felt like 1997 was just a couple of weeks ago", says Fredrik about coming back into the fold. Oscar had these comments: "Fredrik brings structure to the rhythm section and I think you will definitely hear and feel the difference when we play live". "He plays with a pick, for one, and has a great groove and timing, all of which will make HammerFall sound better than we ever have before," Anders remarked, and Stefan chimed in: "We are all very psyched about this and can't wait to get on the road again." "Fredrik recorded Glory To The Brave with us, so he's definitely a part of the family. It's great t o have him back!", Joacim exclaimed.
Be sure to catch the revitalized HF at a festival or other gig this summer and beyond. · Discuss this news further (0) |
Wednesday, March 7, 2007 - Hammerfall - Statements from band and former bass player | Here's the official statement from the band members regarding the situation:
"Bass player Magnus Rosén has elected to step down from Hammerfall to be able to focus on his own projects. While it is surprising, it's not a total shock to us since he has seemed to be unhappy with the situation in the band and on tour for quite a while. We wish him all the best with his future endeavors and turn our attention to the future, immediate and distant.
This will change nothing for us as far as booked gigs and other planned activities are concerned. Rest assured, Hammerfall will continue blazing its trail just like before. The process of selecting the right replacement both musically and personally is already set in motion, and we will announce it as soon as a decision is made."
/Joacim, Stefan, Oscar and Anders
Magnus Rosén has issued the following statement explaining his decision to leave the band:
"Thanks to all the fans around the world who supported the band for 10 years. You all gave me very nice memories after all the concerts we did. It was a pleasure to get such a good audience like you guys! Without you we wouldn't be able to do record so many CDs and make so many tours as we did during the last 10 years. So thank you all.
"It's important for me to tell you that I loved every single second I had on stage during our concerts! To hear your voice, see your happy faces and hear your nice words really made my day!!! It was a pleasure to meet each one of you before and after the concerts, sign your CD, take pictures with you and shake your hands!
It was also very nice for me to use my fame to do my solo concerts for charity in countries like Peru, Chile and Brazil. With these concerts I got food and money for poor people and it was because of YOUR help! Also for supporting me during my bass clinics in schools and in other projects as music against violence and music against drugs! I believe it's very nice way to give and take.
"So it's time for me to be more creative in my career. That's the reason I left Hammerfall. So from now on I'll give myself a chance to write songs and be creative in bands that allow me to. The years are passing by fast and it is important for a musician to grow in the situation he is in!
"I hope that Hammerfall will find a nice and good bassist for you all. And I hope our fans will respect my choice!
"Anyway, be sure that I'll still be doing heavy metal! So keep your eyes open!" · Discuss this news further (0) |

Monday, June 19, 2006 - News from Hammerfall | Hammerfall's new album will be released on October 20th, through Nuclear Blast and a single release of the track 'Natural High' will be made available on September 22nd.
Other song titles on the album are:
Carved In Stone
Titan
Dark Wings, Dark Words
Shadow Empire
Rebel Inside
Threshold
Howlin' With The Pac
The Fire Burns Forever
Oscar Dronjak says: "Our goal was to get as heavy and energetic a production as we had on the previous albums, but to improve it and the performance even more. Musically, we built on the foundation of our previous work and developed the sound, and perhaps brought back some of the speed. Without losing the heaviness and the groove, of course. HammerFall is, and always will be, a Heavy Metal band." · Discuss this news further (0) |
Sunday, May 14, 2006 - Hammerfall news | News from Hammerfall:
"We just began the process of recording our sixth full length album this week, and while it's still very early - two months - until we get the final mix, I have a great feeling about this. The drum sound is very heavy and powerful, fitting for the songs we have written."
Working titles for several of the new songs include: "Dark Wings, Dark Words," "Carved In Stone," "Titan," "Shadow Empire," "Threshold," and "Rebel Inside."
Hammerfall are expected to enter Lundgård Studios in Denmark ("a remote, beautiful countryside location that allows us to concentrate on metal goods and not get distracted by surrounding things or people," according to Dronjak) with producer Charlie Bauerfeind this summer. A studio journal will be kept here. · Discuss this news further (0) |
Tuesday, April 18, 2006 - Hammerfall update | Oscar Dronjak has posted the following Hammerfall update message on his official blog:
"We have now spent the past three days locked in a small room, going over the seven finished songs for the new album. Compared to the first rehearsal in preparation of 'Chapter V: Unbent, Unbowed, Unbroken', this was a fucking breeze! Back then, after the first day, everybody thought, 'This sounds absolutely terrible, what the hell is going to happen when we enter the studio? Chaos?' And I'm not talking about the music, more the performance, but because of that, also the songs themselves. Personally, it had a lot to do with the fact that I was very unsure of my playing ability due to the motorcycle accident I had had the previous year. Anyway, we sounded absolutely horrible then, and we all expected a repeat of that this time around. And I believe that to be a reason for everyone being more prepared than perhaps ever before. Whatever the cause, by the end of yesterday's session, the seven songs all sounded remarkably well-played, and I got a pretty good overlook of the material.
"My initial feelings regarding the songs proved to be correct, as these three days left me with a very positive attitude towards the material! Granted, Joacim didn't join us for more than a quick peek, he never does for the first rehearsal before a recording. There isn't much point for him to be there, as we spend a lot of time going over the details of the music, which usually leads to long passages where he just sits on his chair doing nothing. But my philosophy is that the songs have to be strong even without the vocals, because when they come into play a good track usually becomes great." · Discuss this news further (0) |
Wednesday, July 6, 2005 - Hammerfall touring news | Latest Hammerfall news from Oscar Dronjak:
"First off, sorry for not updating the news in a while. As you probably know, we have been on tour quite a lot the past months, and that is one of the reasons for my tardiness. But, if you live in Europe, I guarantee you it was worth the wait: the fall/winter of 2005 will see HammerFall and Stratovarius doing a double headliner on the road together! For five-and-a-half weeks, we'll be travelling around, from Finland and Sweden in the north to Italy and Spain in the south, from France and Benelux in the west to Slovenia and Hungary in the east, and Germany and Austria and everything else in between. It will be total madness, and a lot of fun times for everyone! Check our tour page for more details regarding this monumental live experience, as I'm sure it will be remembered.
The around-the-world trip we undertook in May was a fantastic success, with some definitive highlights in Tokyo, Guadalajara, Santiago and Sao Paolo. Ah, hell, they were all tremendous! Thanks everyone for helping make the shows the complete euforias they were, hope to see you all again next time!
The audience reception at the gigs so far have been overwhelming, and I don't expect it to wane anytime soon with all the great stuff we've got coming up. The coming weekend, we'll be in Sundsvall, Kristianstad (both Sweden) and Gentofte (outside of Copenhagen, Denmark). The weekend after that, we'll be in the Czech Republic for two shows, should be spectacular. Hope to see and hear you at one or more of these live events. Cheers!"

Tuesday, June 7, 2005 - Hammerfall bassist close to death | Nuclear Blast has issued the following Hammerfall update:
It might sound funny, but it definitely was not. Absolutely not.
Hammerfall bassist Magnus Rosen, 42, nearly died from an allergy shock on a flight to Chile on Tuesday, May 31st.
"I could barely breathe, nobody understood me, and I didn't get any help. The panic took over my body," Rosen told the Swedish newspaper Aftonbladet.
Magnus Rosen's big misfortune was that the peanuts he received aboard the plane were mixed with cashew nuts, which he is allergic to.
"My tongue and throat quickly swelled up and I got hives all over my body. I could barely speak," the Hammerfall bassist said on the phone from Chile, one of the stops on the band's current South American tour.
What made the situation worse was the fact that the flight attendants on the Brazilian airline Varig could barely speak English. "The situation got totally crazy because they thought I wanted more nuts! I just got worse and the panic started crawling through my body," Magnus said.
Finally at least one of them understood that he was in a state of emergency. The crew brought out a medical box full of supplies that they had no idea how to use. "They called an medical emergency number in the U.S. to help them," Magnus said. "Finally, two doctors who were passengers on the flight came forward to offer their assistance."
The first cortizone shot only helped marginally. "Then I received another one so strong that I passed out," Magnus said. "They woke me up once every half hour to check on me."
Since then he's been extremely tired but happy to be alive.
"I just about managed through the first show, but now it feels better," said Magnus Rosen. · Discuss this news further (0) |

Sunday, October 24, 2004 - Hammerfall news | Latest news from Hammerfall:
As I write this, we have only half a day of recording left, doing the backing vocals. For the past seven weeks, we have been hard at work on this, our fifth studio effort, and it's wonderful to be finished! When I have a bit more distance to the recordings, I will try to describe the contents so you will know what to expect in March. However, I can safely say that if you are a fan of HammerFall, you will not be disappointed this time around, either. We poured our hearts and souls - as well as blood, sweat and tears, mind you - into the production of this record, and I definitely think it shines through: the music is more alive than it ever has been before.
We shall see what the professional music lovers will think about it next Saturday, when we will have a big listening session here at Lundgård for journalists from all over the world. It should be interesting and fun, but it's also a little nervous presenting your new material to other people. Especially to those who will put their first impression in print for thousands and thousands to read. :) But I'm not really worried, as I know we have done our best and created another landmark in the upwards-moving evolution of our music. Praise is great, but neither good reviews nor bad ones would ever influence us in one direction or another. We are artists creating musical pieces for the world to love hate or disregard. Now, it is up to you do pass judgment. Our work is done, and I have to tell you: it feels fuckin' great! Up the Hammers!

Sunday, August 22, 2004 - Hammerfall news | An update from Hammerfall:
Here is, as promised, a report on the next HammerFall studio album. First off, the release is scheduled to March 7th, 2005. There will be a single and video out about a month earlier, as usual. For studio facilities this time, we have chosen the wonderful Lundgaard Studios in Denmark. We will do the entire production here, probably including mix. The date is soon upon us, as we will begin laying the drum tracks on September 4th. The album will contain nine or ten songs, with titles like: "The Templar Flame", "Hammer Of Justice" and "Fury Of The Wild". A complete listing of the titles will come in the future, as well as some thoughts on the musical direction. It is way, WAY too early to talk about that yet, I never know until the songs have had a while to grow on me and I get a feel for the overall material.
Allright, have fun with the new site, I will return next week with another update. Until then, friends, hail!

Sunday, December 28, 2003 - Hammerfall update | Latest Hammerfall news:
"We are looking at a delay in the song writing process and subsequent album recording and release. Normally, if we were to follow our an-album-every-two-years routine, we would have between three and five songs ready by now. We have none. This will most likely lead to a delay in schedule by about four-to-six months; you should see a new HammerFall studio album in early 2005, by the looks of it. This also gives us time to give the songs the proper attention they need and deserve in order to avoid rushing anything and making sure they are 100% HammerFall worthy when recording them.
That's all for now. Oh, almost forgot, Merry Christmas to all you metal fans out there, hope you get many LOUD gifts! ;-)

Both are expected to receive a European release on September 23rd through Nuclear Blast Records.
Despite the nightclub assault two weeks ago which left vocalist Joacim Cans' face horribly scarred, Hammerfall have apparently gone ahead and filmed a video for "Hearts On Fire".
