Other information Band Profile
What is your name and your current position in the band?
Alex Kraft , founder, singer, composer, producer and guitarplayer.
Howwould you categorize the style of the band? And did you ever consider or try playing other styles of music than the one(s) you are playing now?
DEZPERADOZ is Spaghettiwesternmetal. I've played all kinds of music.
What is your latest album and why should people buy it?
"An eye for an eye", nothing compares to that. It's not only a album, it's much more.
Tell us about the history of the band. More specifically, when was the band formed, how did you meet, and have there been any particular highlights or low points in your career, any crucial events that have taken you where you are today?
I formed this Band called "DESPERADOS" in 1998, with my old Bandmember from my old Band celled "Jail"with Oliver Lampertsdörfer on Drums, Tom Angelripper on vocals, and some Stagemusicans.
After this years I started the Band 2005 again with new members from my Band "Dirty Deeds", Alex Weigand (also a friend) on Bass, Sascha Tilger (Angelripperdrummer) and old friend Dennis Ward for Stage on second guitar.. Dennis got to much to do as a pruducer. So I did it without a second guitarplayer. 8 Hours before a DEZPERADZ Show in St Petersburg the drummer Sascha told me about his extremly fear of flying.
We arrived St Petersburg with no drummer, after a sleepless night on the telephone to organize a russian drummer, who knows our songs perfect. We found him ! After my longest rehersal in al old russian factory we made a real great show in St. Petersburg with our russian "onedayguestdrummer". Yee-Haaw!
Back home I asked Markus Kullmann. We know each other for 20 Years and it was the absolute best choice. DEZPERADOZ is a trio. Markus Kullmann on drums, Alex Weigand on bass and me for the rest:)
Was there ever a time when you wondered if your band would remain just a local outfit and never make it in the industry?
For shure !
Can you share with us one or two of your favourite moments with the band?
That St Petersbur thing and my rehearsal with the bunch 2 hours ago !! How is the writing process in the band?
I write the songs and the other cowboyzz bring it to life and push it up
What brought you on the path to becoming a musician? Did you ever consider or take any other paths through life besides music?
When I was "4" I want to be a Cowboy. When I was "8" I want to be a musican.
Do you have any idols? If yes, who?
Not really.
Do you have any regrets looking back at your career? For example any songs or even full albums that you regret recording? If so, what made you regret it?
No, I believe in the way of life.
Are there particular songs in your catalogue that the fans love but you're not particular fond of yourself?
I don't release a song if I'm not a "fan" of it.
How important do you rate the lyrical side of your albums?
Very important
What do you think about the state of the music industry today?
They have to think new. The times have changed. We need new ideas for the whole music industry.
What do you think is the best way to fight music piracy?
It's not easy. Years ago it was a Cassette, today you burn a CD.
I don't think it's the right way to "fight against". Give more bonus things on a CD, more specials. Music is the one thing, but what about Clips, Data's, Lyrics, Artwork, Photos, Info's, Ringtones, Screensaver and stuff. There's enough space for stuff like that on a CD. We made that on the new album. You cant sell a CD for 16 Euros with 10, or 12 songs on it and a cheap cover in a plastic case.
Do you have a life philosophy? If yes, what is it?
Never give up, be honest and brave.
Can you describe a typical day in your life?
Wake up at 11:00 - cold orangejuce On the computer (for work, compose also for advertising) 14:00 in studio, or rehersalroom for one of my 3 Bands, or the other compose jobs, if I'am not on tour. 0:54 writing interviews like this ;-) 02:00 go to sleep.
What do you like to spend your time with besides music?
Collecting weapons and stuff. I'am a "hobbyhistorican" .
What's the craziest thing that has ever happened on a tour?
I've played with Tom (Angelripper) on Dynamofestival. We banged on stage obsessively. Tom stopped in the middle of the song. He was real pale. He sipped to the stageborder, gave a warning to the press and puked right into the "presspit"
You're heading off to live on a deserted island for a couple of years with your portable entertainment system... Which albums, movies or books would you bring? (Max. 3 of each)
Music. 1) Frank Sinatra - "The Platinum Collection" 2) Cash - "The Man Comes Around" 3) Testament - "The Gathering"
Movies: 1) Once Upon a Time in the West 2) The Lesbian Whip Inferno ( no may be a joke ;-)
Book: The art of war
What is your favourite joke?
An old cowboy went to a bar and ordered a drink. As he sat sipping his whisky, a young lady sat down next to him. She turned to the cowboy and asked "Are you a real cowboy?" He replied, "Well, I've spent my whole life on the ranch herding horses, mending fences and branding cattle, so I guess I am."
She said, "I'm a lesbian. I spend my whole day thinking about women. As soon as I get up in the morning I think about women. When I shower I think about women. As I watch TV, or even eat, I think about women. Everything seems to make me think about women."
The two sat sipping in silence. A short time later a man sat down on the other side of the old cowboy and asked, "Are you a real cowboy?" He replied, "I always thought I was, but I just found out I'm a lesbian."
Can you tell us about any future plans for you and your band?
First we support the Rage Dates. Second we make a Jailhousetour in Germany. Some singleshows, Festivals and Clubs . touring, touring and writing for the next album.
