Dezperadoz is a curiosity of Western Flavored heavy rock that is worth spending some time with. I have kept returning to the album in the past 6 months as it has a certain charm that draws me in. Rough voiced Alex Kraft is the main man behind the band, having written all songs, playing guitar and singing as well. Originally he formed the band with Tom Angelripper (Sodom & Onkel Tom) as Desperados but they split and

Here comes the pain.
The album opens tough and hard after a short intro but soon settles into a nice mid-tempo groove, with
May heaven strike me down being a highlight. Straying from the pack,
Wild Times gallops away at higher speed near chorus time and the atmospheric
Give up is the closest the album comes to a ballad.
"Eye for an Eye" is a concept album looking at the life of a guy sentenced to die. Most songs complement each other instead of standing out. The result is an album with a coherent atmosphere and many good but few really memorable songs.
Days of Thunder is the "hit" of the album. With tongue in cheek western elements in place (thundering shotgun sounds and a banjo sounding guitar), a strong drive and a melodic edge, the song doesn't need many listens before it becomes a mind staple and visions of dancing in the local saloon conjure themselves. Great fun, and don't even try to suggest that this song is cheesy or you will be hunted and shot down like a duck.
A couple of covers,
Riders of The Storm by "The Doors" and
25 minutes to go by "Johnny Cash" are given the Dezperado treatment and especially Riders... leaves a good impression.
If you're enticed by the idea of gun slinging heavy rock then check this out. It is a good album. Best heard at high noon.
