It's only been 8 months since I reviewed
Molly Hatchet's live album
Locked and Locked , which was a salute to
Molly Hatchet's 25-year career. This time it's another celebration of their 25th anniversary with re-recordings of their best material.
The album recognizes
Molly Hatchet's entire career since there is songs from each album pre "Devil's Canyon Re-recorded".
Main man Bobby Ingram is a great lead guitarist and he has been main engine in breathing new life to their classic repertoire. I played my old vinyl copy of
Bounty Hunter and in comparison, the re-recorded version has more body because of the better and up-dated production. Also the vocals are more up-front. Overall the re-recordings are done with respect for the originals and don't deviate that far from them.
Even though these songs are familiar to most southern rock fans, it's worth highlighting
Satisfied Man, since it's irresistible with a catchy chord pattern and a female choir. Another favorite is the piano rocker
Bloody reunion and of course the breathtaking
Fall of the Peacemakers, which ranks among the best southern rock songs ever.
So what justifies this release since there already is several low price
Molly Hatchet compilations on the market? Of course the album sounds more consistent because of the same sound quality on the whole record. In Bobby Ingram's own words "
We recorded this album not to change or better the original recordings, but to give a fresh dimension to the millions of fans around.
We set out to make the old tracks sound tougher, bigger and more dynamic. In 1978 the first
Molly Hatchet album was released and here we are today still flirtin' with disaster"
Good time Rock 'n' roll never goes out of style. Check out the tracklist.
