For those who with they could hear a band that plays good down to earth Metal, after listening to this one can wonder why the hell aren't these guys signed. Now called Magus Beast, but released under the name Agressor (yes, that is the way they spell it), with the change probably due to the fact that either the name was way to generic or somebody else obviously owns that name, play old school metal (in the vein of Judas Priest/early Manowar) that meets the drive of sub modern power metal, say ala earlier
Iced Earth and Helloween.
With the consistency of these seven cuts showing this band's ability to play, not to mention the vocal chops of Ron Scauri's clear alto falsetto that tends to sweep the notes quite a bit, these guys can play pretty fucking heavy with aggression, without having the cheesy connotations that might literally fuck these guys for ruin.
With seven quick cuts to bring the sound of Magus Beast to the point, with literally no bullshit attached, this makes for a good demonstration on what the band can do, complete with guitar solos and the busy but yet driving drumming.
All the cuts represented here are clearly heavy, all fast paced with the occasional moody laid back into, as heard on
"In Vain;" no to mention the Saxon-ish cut
"Nightfall" with it's sub avant-garde/marching drive found within the verses, but none the less, it all makes for a heavy driven set of songs.
Strengths: Musicianship, Powerful Sound
Weaknesses: Might be little too retro for some, but its sure is fun and enjoyable
Advice? None Really, maybe some tighter production to round out a full-blown release.
