This performance is taken from
Life of Agony's reunion shows in New York, January 2003. Singer Keith Caputo is back in fold after Ugly Kid Joe singer Whitfield Crane took over vocal duties on
Life of Agony's last Tour.
The concert opens with the crowd pleaser
River Runs Red. Even though the song is only 2 minutes, you easily feel the intensity and excitement of
Life of Agony reunited on stage.
Life of Agony's style is a crossover between Hard Core and Metal with melodic elements. Songs like
Bad Seed and
This Time are well representatives of the style with their change in pace.
I must admit that I was among the masses that jumped on the
Life of Agony wagon after the release of "Soul Searching Sun". The album had a lot of melodic reconciling elements, which appealed to me. From "Soul Searching Sun" the atmospheric
Tangerine is among concert highlights. The emotional middle play creates a great mood to the song. Also the rocking hit
Weeds is well performed live, but Keith Caputo voice sounds a bit more fragile on the up-tempo songs.
Underground captures the concert atmosphere with a loud sing-along from the crowd.
My Eyes is album highlight driven by a really cool guitar riff, which leaves the crowd hungry for an encore.
The concert lasts for around 80 minutes. The CD ends with samples of the member's side projects, while
Life of Agony was on hiatus. The included track from "Among Thieves" follows the LOA tradition and sounds really cool, which also has its effect on Supermassiv's contribution. The Keith Caputo solo track sounds disappointing though.
The DVD is the visual aspect of the performance. It is kind of weird to watch Keith Caputo's stage presence, because last time I saw him on stage, he supported his solo album. He was sitting on a chair performing the songs, which is in contrast to his energetic stage presence in
Life of Agony. The DVD lacks some of the extra features that usually are available on recent DVD's. The interview segment is short, only around 20 minutes, but it elucidates what a special band
Life of Agony is. The interview is mostly talks about their Tours in
Europe and there are some amazing clips from Dynamo open Air, where they performed for a huge crowd of almost 100.000 people.
This is a special limited box set containing the double CD and the DVD. It is also sold separately, but since the DVD lacks extra features it looses a grade or two. It's really a standard DVD, so make sure to get this limited version instead of buying them more expensive separately. Sold separately the DVD is recommended for fans only.
