Nexx - Biography

Nexx was formed as recently as the year 2000 in Madrid, Spain by four top quality musicians - Bernardo Llobregat (Guitar), Jose De La Banda (Bass), Oscar Perez (Drums) and Fran Rodriguez (Keyboards), but they had no singer! It was some time before they found the person that would fit perfectly into the style of the band and Patricia Tapia was that person, finally becoming the fifth member of Nexx to complete the line-up.

When the band started their primary goal was to play covers of the bands they were fans of: Whitesnake, Bon Jovi, Toto, Europe, Harem Scarem, Mitch Malloy, Danger Danger, Extreme, Mr.Big, Treat, Stryper, Journey, and more...They played many shows all around Madrid and the surrounding area, having a great time and also building up a strong following.

Things began to happen fast and the band played a special show to present the Nemelrock Festival which was to take place in Madrid a few months later. Then they played as special guests in the presentation of highly rated Spanish act Elyte's first album in March 2001. A month after that, The first ever Nemelrock took place. It was the first melodic rock festival to be held in Spain. Harem Scarem, Dare, House of Shakira, 91Suite...all very talented musicians, played there. The festival was amazing. Nexx played a set consisting of mainly covers but decided to throw in a few of their own songs which they`d been working on. Not only did these go down a storm, but after playing the Harem Scarem classic, "Distant Memory" with Scarem watching in the venue, they asked Patricia to get up on stage and sing a song with them during their headlining set the very next day!

Further shows followed through the Spring and Summer of 2001 whilst the band continued to write their won original compositions. The Autumn of 2001 was very busy for Nexx; First they performed a special presentation of the demo to 269 people in Ritmo y Compás venue (Madrid). Two weeks later they played as guest artist to Mitch Malloy at his Spanish show. Finally, the climax. In November of 2001 Nexx were invited to play at the prestigious GODS show in the UK were the response was just incredible.

2002 saw even more live work and writing. In March the band performed a very special "public rehearsal" concert, where they performed their latest material for their fans in order to gain a reaction from them. June 2002 saw them appearing at the second Nemelrock show and then a Summer of performances at which point the band was approached officially by Now And Then and a deal was signed in August. The label is renowned for it`s work with new artists in the genre.

So it was that during October and early November of 2002 the Spanish band travelled over to England to record their debut album with legendary producer Pete "PeeWee" Coleman (AC/DC, Paradise Lost, The Christians etc etc) at Mastertone Studios in Runcorn. The results are to be heard on "Colours" and they speak for themselves. Musicianship honed through the many live performances compliments the incredibly high quality songwriting for such a relatively young band. Rarely, if ever, has a debut album by a band with almost no professional studio experience yielded such fantastic results.

Having recently performed acoustically as special guest to Danny Vaughn (Tyketto) in Madrid, Nexx has a busy Summer ahead with album launch showcases and an appearance at this year`s Gods show already planned. This is not some thrown together `studio project` as with so many other releases these days. This is a real working live band which holds in it`s hands, along with a very few other acts, the possible future of the genre!
