Drive She Said - Real Life
You know, a while back I was talking to a friend of mine and we were kind of asking ourselves "where has all the good decent pop music gone?" Well Drive She Said has kept the tradition of pop metal alive for many years keeping the emphasis on songwriting while incorporating first-rate musicianship. Being a cross between Canada's Harem Scarem and former Europe frontman Joey Tempest (solo material of course), Drive She Said has been at the forefront of creating pop music with a Metal twist.

Being another brainchild of songwriters Al Frilsch, and Mark Mangold, along with drummer Jonathan Mover, "Real Life" consists of everything from hard driving cuts to power ballads, creating a mixture of diversity of pop prowess among the songs of the record. There are lots of keyboards on this record, not in the style of Rudess or Sherinnian, but in the style more or less of keeping up the melody along with the guitars providing the rock and roll backdrop.

The song structure of the cuts proves that these guys can write great material; you can hear the whole factor of "I can see such and such maybe covering this song." The more rocking songs on the record are "All Your Heart," "What's it Gonna Take," and the opening title cut "Real Life." The ballads include "Silver White," "We Live for Love" (oh no, not with a title like that), and "Believe," which are played in the classic power ballad vein of the 80's.

For some this might be seen as guilty pleasure music, but there is nothing wrong with that because these guys have always written AOR pop material in a way that it should been written, that is what the main stronghold of Drive She Said has always been, along with their musicianship, which is not a bad thing at all. "Real Life" is going to satisfy fans of Pop Metal, as well as melodic rock fans. Defiantly check this out if you are looking for good and melodic pop/rock music.
