King is another great band hailing from Sweden. "You're With King now, Baby" is a 3 track demo CD full of pure high octane Rock 'N' Roll. According to the press material King gathers inspiration from some of my favorite bands like Quireboys and Guns 'n' Roses. I can easily recognize King's attitude and the joy of playing compared to Quireboys. The Ramones must be a reference also; especially since all band members first name are King.
The promo album opens with the hard hitting
82's (Baby Don't You Want Me?).
The music of King is not influenced by what's the flavor of month in the music business.
82's (Baby Don't You Want Me?) is rooted in the 70's punk Rock with a twist of the 80's Rock scene. Singer King Kristoffer sounds very energetic on this tune.
The riff based
Charlotte is my favorite on the disc. The chorus for
Charlotte is melodic and you can't help nod your head or foot in time with the music.
Lipstick sounds like a hit from the 70's. King uses a horn section and a full female backing choir to add more body to the song. Once again the song features a great melodic chorus. The guitar sounds a bit shrill.
Overall this album sounds refreshing. King uses simple remedies to create their retro-rock. For sure the music suits a small sweaty club scene, where King can unfold all their stored energy. Guitars, bass and a drummer are really all it takes and I would love to experience if King also have the ability to entertain a crowd. Well, I am pretty sure that they posse that ability.
My only complaint is the playing time of only 8 minutes and 20 seconds, which is too short. However, it's a great appetizer, leaving me wanting more.
