I have to credit Alexx Michael for playing Glam music even though he's hailing from Germany. "Splashed" is
Shameless' third album and once again Alexx and his partner BC have traveled overseas to sunny
Los Angeles to record the album. The featured musicians are all well known from the American Glam/Hard Rock scene.
Pretty Boy Floyd singer Steve Summers except for 2 songs handles vocals, where Stevie Rachelle from
Tuff is taking over the mike stand. Furthermore Keri Kelli (Ratt, Warrant, Slash's Snakepit etc.) has written 2 songs and he has also co-produced the album.
The coolest track on the album is
Love Game. Alexx plays a bouncing bass on the intro and the screaming guitars are providing a hard edge. The vocals from Steve Summers are excellent. His pipes are still forceful and perfect for this style.
Overall the songs contain lots of catchy hooks and melodic choruses exemplified on
Goodbye 2 U. Keri Kelli and BC are both playing some great guitar.
Wild in the Night is driven by a nice melodic riff.
The drawback of the album is that it sometimes gets a bit too primitive. The chorus for the single
Don't Hesitate is catchy, but it is repeated to many times and too much bubble gum Rock. The same goes for
Change Your World, while the Stevie Rachelle sung
Get A Way has a verse with a similar feeling to Def Leppard's
Pour Some Sugar on Me.
All songs are pure sleaze/Glam rockers. The ballad
She's Not Comin' Home breaks the rocking shoal with an emotional piano.
She's Not Comin' Home is a beautiful ballad with distinct hit potential. Steve Summers sounds like he feels and believes in the lyrics a 100 percent adding emotion to the song.
There is no new thinking on this album. Fortunately, you might say, since this a happy album with a pure 80's feel. "Splashed" fulfils its goal perfectly, namely to entertain the listener.
Everything is consistent about this album. The image a 100 percent Glam, which is emphasized when reading the lyrics. Here are some random quotes "U say U Wanna stay with me", Hey little Jeanny wait 4 me" and "I have 2 getaway". The double x in Alexx is just another little Glam idea.
The album is essential for everyone, who still enjoys
Poison "Look what the Cat Dragged" or
Pretty Boy Floyd "Leather Boyz with electric toyz". "Splashed" is a splendid record if you wanna have a good time.
Alexx Michael and the featured musicians heart all beats for this type of music, making "Splashed" an honest album. I have rewarded
Shameless with an extra grade for sticking to the Glam style plus the great value for money. The album also includes a video of
Don't Hesitate. Basically it's just the band playing in the studio mixed with clips of The Roxy and
Rainbow Bar and Grill. The place to be in the good old days. In addition there is also a 17-minute Tour video, where
Shameless performed at some European
Kiss conventions. The video gains a small insight to non-glamorous touring life. Bruce Kulick joins the band on stage and blasts out a great solo on the
Kiss track
Do you Love Me. Bruce Kulick stays on stage for the grand finale
Lick it Up.
One last remark - Check out the cover.
