The album opens with vocals sounding like vintage
Bret Michaels and the track
Nothing can keep me Away could easily been a leftover from Poison's "Look What The Cat Dragged In". However, this album was recorded in 2002.
Mad Margritt is not inventing anything or breaking new ground. The style is good time Rock 'N' Roll 80's style. Vocalist Eddie Smith may not be the best technical singer, but his glow and dedication to the music makes up for the lack of technical skills. Eddie Smith's voice has a special tone, which is a bit similar to Jamie St. James from Black 'N' Blue.
Album highlights include the great
Midnight Rendezvous. The song has a great melody, which
Mad Margritt is performing very well. The Baby's originally wrote the song. Furthermore there is another cover, which is a powerful version of AC/DC's
T.N.T. The song was also included on the "Bon Appetite" tribute to the Bon Scott years of AC/DC.
Sensations (Afterglow) is a beautiful classical guitar composition by guitarist Davay Ray. The acoustic guitar fades into the ballad
Can't get over You, where Steve Dietrich is adding a nice bass line on the intro. The ballad really grows on you proving that
Mad Margritt is capable of writing catchy tunes. The ballad goes electric on the chorus with some persuasive vocals from Eddie Smith putting emotion into this broken hearted love song.
Mad Margritt's strength is the ballads. The song structure for the piano ballad
Believe is almost epic, ending grandiose with a great guitar solo fading out. The album also ends with a beautiful acoustic ballad titled
Lost in the Wind.
Overall this is vintage 80's Rock with sing along choruses. There is no innovation or surprises - just check out the guitar solo on
Someone to Love, which is so typical for the 80's era. All the elements characterizing
Mad Margritt are combined in the song
Long Way from Home. The song could have been a hit in the early 80's, but today it is just a reminder of the good old times. And is that so bad? I think not.
