Kingdom Come - Independent
I can feel it is Lenny Wolf singing on the new Kingdom Come album "Independent". This time front man Lenny Wolf has taken fully control of the whole process and is playing all the instruments himself. The listener can sure feel that Lenny Wolf has succeeded in making a fabulous album.

"Independent" is incorporating more modern elements like drum programming and sound effects. It has the effect that most song arrangements are quite grandiose and sound absolutely excellent. Further on the production is really great providing the album with a thick sound. Lenny Wolf's voice sounds a little fragile on some of the arrangements, but he has never had the strongest voice. Compared to the first Kingdom Come albums these songs are a bit mellower. However, Kingdom Come have not forgotten how to Rock. Album highlight Do you Dare rocks big time with a very emotional guitar creating a great sound collage.

The whole album is very strong with recommendable tracks like the great hymn Didn't Understand with layers of guitars and keyboards. America is Kingdom Come's US autobiography and if you know a little Kingdom Come history the lyrics are excellent describing Kingdome Come's start in the US with Get it On

The music on "Independent" is more song oriented than previous Kingdom Come albums. The beautiful ballad Forever is driven by an acoustic guitar. There is no scale shredding in the solo. The solo is focusing on the melody just like the songs in general.

If you don't like this album immediately I promise you that it will grow on you. The album actually sounds best played from start till end, because it sounds best as a unit.

Once again Ulftone has provided us with another great 2002 release right up there with Mike Tramp and Jack Russell's records on the label.

In the words of Lenny Wolf himself: "Nice, nice, nice."
