Overall the versions are close to the originals. The backing band is the same on all songs (except for TNT) and they sound very close to the Young Brothers and Company. The interpretation of Bon Scott is different from the participating singers.
Tommy Paris and Gene Hadley perform some great versions of the old Powerage classics
Rock N' Roll Damnation and
Gone Shootin'. Rick Ruhl from
Every Mother's Nightmare is performing 3 songs and I must admit I have a hard time adapting to his singing style. Worst case is the classic
Touch too Much where Rick is cutting off the tones. It really sounds like he cannot hold the tones. Maybe this is his own personal interpretation because he is sounding a lot better on the ballad
Ride On.
Derek St. Holmes' raspy voice characterizes a great version of
Dirt Deeds. The album finishes off with the best tracks on this release.
Taz from Cherry St. is definitely the best Bon Scott impression. Taz is singing
Jailbreak and his vocals sound really close to the real thing. Mad Margitt play a robust version of
TNT with some more powerful guitars compared to the original from 1975.
Dave Evans, who was the singer in
AC/DC before Bon Scott, performs the absolutely best track on this album.
Dave Evans is singing his guts out on
It's a Long Way To The Top. The track is recorded Live in Australia and the version is kicking ass.
Dave Evans has some great authentic vocals. For an
AC/DC fanatic like me it is amazing to finally hear him perform some of the old
AC/DC songs. This track justifies and differentiates this album from the other
AC/DC tributes.
The songs are performed because of the artists love and respect for
AC/DC's impact on music.
AC/DC songs are so well written that I doubt that they will ever sound badly. They certainly sound great on this tribute.
