Armoury Records is re-releasing the
Twisted Sister catalogue in re-mastered versions.
"Come out and Play" never became the same commercial success as "Stay Hungry".
Twisted Sister badly needed some infectious videos to promote the record the same way that MTV did with
I Wanna Rock and
We're Not Gonna Take it.
Just like "Stay Hungry" the production is quite thin.
Scorpions producer Dieter Dierks is responsible of "Come out and Play" and even though this is a re-mastered reissue the sound is still thin.
The music of
Twisted Sister has always been primitive. Does it hold up today? Partly - the band still plays in original line up with original make-up etc., which makes the music very trustworthy. There is something unique about
Twisted Sister and charismatic frontman Dee Snider' s unique voice. On "Come out and Play"
Twisted Sister plays it safe and basically it is "Stay Hungry part 2" without the hits.
I believe in Rock and Roll,
The Fire Still Burns plus
I Believe in You are a bit primitive. All 3 just repeat the song title numerous times in the chorus. They band should have worked more on better and catchier choruses. The cover of
Leader of the Pack fits
Twisted Sister perfectly and among the best songs.
The highlights of the album are
You Want What we got and the 50's Rock N Roller
Be Cruel to Your School featuring Billy Joel on piano.
"Come out and Play" has sold more than 500.000 copies. Just like Dee Snider states on
Twisted Sister Live at Hammersmith "Not too bad for a bunch of assholes outta New York"
"Love is for Suckers" is the least selling
Twisted Sister record and the album is always overlooked when
Twisted Sister plays live. There wasn't even a single "Love is For Suckers" inclusion on
Twisted Sister's greatest hits record "Big Hits and Nasty Cuts"
For the first time a producer finally supplied the band with a decent sound. Beau Hill has made a great sounding album and frankly the songs shows that Dee Snider has progressed as a songwriter. I bet you cannot help tipping your toe to
Hot Love and infectious rock song with a great chorus. Another highlight is the fast paced title track.
"Love is For Suckers" was released in 1987 and was the final studio album from Dee Snider and the boyz. The album is controversial because it doesn't sound like the other
Twisted Sister albums. The album was intended as a solo album for Dee Snider and that explains the softer direction
None of the albums are masterpieces but they bring back memories of a great time. The 80's Hard Rock scene was about having fun and
Twisted Sister was truly an exponent for that with their flashy videos and stage show.
Play it Loud MUTHA!
