FM - Metropolis
Two years after the formation FM released their debut album "Indiscreet" to critical acclaim. Today these guys are veterans with eleven albums under their belt.

The career of FM has been a bumpy ride. The band has been on hiatus for 12 years only to experience a second coming fueled by a reunion gig at Nottingham Rock City. The fans had missed FM and the demand led to a slot at the prestigious Download festival plus Firefest. In 2010 the comeback album "Metropolis" saw the light of day - 15 years later than FM's last album.

In 2011 FM is doing a European tour including prominent slots at some big festivals: Graspop, Sweden Rock and once again Download festival. Of course much of the demand is caused by FM's achievement in the past, but "Metropolis" is the perfect example of a band still going strong with a lot to offer.

The 12 songs on "Metropolis" are strong compositions - a borderline case of AOR and Hard Rock. The album surpasses anything in their past.

The album opens with Wildside. A great start to the album. Steve Overland's voice is in top shape and the rocking mid-tempo tune sets the standard for the album.

Hollow builds up for the chorus which doesn't disappoint. New guitarist Jim Kirkpatrick has a great tone and his guitar burns through.

Steve Overland's rich vocals suits the AOR tune Unbreakable. The song has hit all over it and the beefy production suits the songs perfectly.

A personal favorite is the bouncy piano rocker Over You. FM once again underlines they are writers of great melodic choruses. The musicianship is superb and the backing vocals smooth.

A few songs have a tendency of being too long, but all in all "Metropolis" is merely a great melodic rock album.

Thursday June 9th will be a great day at Sweden Rock festival. Your truly will report from the FM show. Till then this is the perfect record to get you in the mood for FM live on stage.
