In 1988 the story of
Dizzy Mizz Lizzy began when class mates Tim Christensen (vocals and guitar) and Martin Nielsen (bass) formed the band, which was completed with drummer Soren Friis.
In 1993 the trio won a huge Danish talent competition and the grand prize was a recording session that spawned a 4-track demo. Danish national radio embraced the demo and both
Waterline and
Silverflame became huge radio hits and landed the band a record deal with EMI. In 1994 the self-titled debut album saw the day of light and it is still the best selling debut album in Denmark shipping approx. 225.000 copies, which is outstanding in a country with a population of 5 million.
In 1996 the follow up "Rotator" was released and it sold approx 100.000 copies in Denmark. The band was the biggest thing in their homecountry in those years but sadly they broke up soon after the "Rotator" album.
In 2010 the band played some reunion shows, which is immortalized on this 2 CD/DVD combo.
The DVD contains a film about the band plus the live concert on DVD. The movie is in Danish and portraits the rise and fall...plus second coming of
Dizzy Mizz Lizzy. The filmmaker fails to keep the story interesting since the movie becomes a bit monotonous and lacks some wild Rock N' Roll stories. The best story is from Roskilde festival where Dave Grohl has watched the band and afterwards lectures Lemmy about the history of Dizzy Mizzy Lizzy.
Most of the movie focus on the reunion and the most interesting footage is
Dizzy Mizz Lizzy returning to Japan where they enjoyed a bit of success 15 years ago. Both the debut and "Rotator" sold around 100.000 copies in Japan. The Japanese crowd is loyal and
Dizzy Mizz Lizzy plays sold out shows. Even Hard Rock guru Masah Itoh comes to see the band.
Another music nerd thing that makes the movie a bit more interesting is spotting Tim Christensen's collection of vintage 80's Hard Rock t-shirts. Through the movie he wears vintage shirts from Ratt, Cheap Trick, Ozzy Osbourne,
Dokken and even McAuley Schenker Group. RESPECT!
The concert is recorded at KB hallen, Copenhagen. KB hallen is a famous venue where Dizzy Mizzy Lizzy all experienced their idols on stage when they were youngsters. This is a childhood dream come true for
Dizzy Mizz Lizzy since they never played KB Hallen during their heyday.
Visually the band is a bit hampered being a trio and lets the music do the talking. Tim Christensen was never an extraordinary singer and therefore his vocals sounds pretty much like 1994. The band still rock and it seems like there is a special chemistry when Tim Christensen, Soren Friis and Martin Nielsen enters the stage as
Dizzy Mizz Lizzy.
