Legendary
Hanoi Rocks has disbanded and singer
Michael Monroe has assembled a new band carrying his name. "Another Night in the sun" captures
Michael Monroe band in concert. The live set is founded on songs from bassist Sami Yaffa and Monroe's band Demolition 23, who released one album in 1994. The Demolition 23 album was a return to Monroe's punk roots and dedicated to Stiv Bartors.
In concert Monroe is flanked by 2 splendid guitarists Ginger (Wildhearts) and Steve Conte (Company of Wolves/New York Dolls) along with drummer Karl Rockfist and Sami Yaffa.
The setlist mainly focus on the Demolition 23 songs, but we are also treated to vintage
Hanoi Rocks, Monroe solo stuff and even 2 brand new songs.
We get a sneak preview of two fresh songs:
You're Next and
Motorheaded for a fall.
Both are
good songs but they lack a catchy refrain. The direction of the new songs is much in vein with the Demolition 23 material. Sadly Monroe chose not to include the most melodic of the new songs:
Another Night in the Sun, which this album is named after and he also overlooks his splendid solo albums "Peace of Mind", "Whatcha Want" and "Life gets you dirty".
Michael Monroe has said this about the album:
Me and the guys in the band decided to record a live album - something for the fans to have, while they're waiting for our actual studio album, due to be released in the early part of next year. We also wanted to capture the live set we've been playing recently, pretty much as it is, before we start playing more of our newly written material live in the future.
"Another Night in the Sun" is a raw and fantastic live concert. It is recorded in Helsinki's Tavastia Club and it sure captures the feeling of seeing Monroe in a club setting. Yours truly had the pleasure of seeing Monroe outdoors at Sweden Rock festival and this live album plus his performance at Sweden Rock brings high hopes for the up-coming album.
