After leaving
Angel keyboardist Greg
Giuffria formed his own band
Giuffria recruiting David Glenn Eisley on vocals, Graig Goldy on guitars, drummer Allan Krigger and Chuck Wright on bass.
In 1984
Giuffria signed to MCA Records and
Giuffria's self-titled debut album became a considerable success peaking at #26 on the album charts. The biggest single
Call to Your Heart is quite typical for
Giuffria, since it sounds like a harder version of
Journey.
The first part of the album is pure
AOR Journey style with David Glenn Eisley hitting high Steve Perry-like notes. Guitarist Graig Goldy breaks the polished corporate style with some blistering guitar solos - just listen to
Do Me Right. No wonder that
Dio stole him after this album.
The best song is the pompous power ballad
Lonely in Love with a catchy refrain.
Lonely in Love also marks a shift in the record since the last part of the songs leans more towards Hard Rock.
Trobule again is
Giuffria with more edge and Eisley shows his range since he sings a lot deeper.
AOR lovers shouldn't worry since the keyboard is dominant, but it suits
Giuffria to play more straight Hard Rock - like on the excellent
Line of Fire and album closer
Out of the Blue.
Normally this would be a borderline case of my musical taste, since I am not much of an
AOR man. But when the songs are so well written, structured and performed on "
Giuffria" I must acknowledge and simply surrender to 10 songs all catchy with great melodies.
Giuffria takes you back to the 80's. The record is permeated by an 80's trademark sound. The album keeps growing and it is top notch workmanship. Despite being keyboard driven the melodies are so strong that the record appeals to other than the average
AOR fan.
After some line up changes
Giuffria released another album called "Silk and Steel". The same band later transformed into
House of Lords after firing David Glenn Eisley
