Since Eonian Records started in July 2008 they have become synonymous with high quality archival recordings from unsigned bands mainly from the
Chicago area. For the first time the label releases a second album by the same artist.
Chicago's
Gynger Lynn first release saw the light of day around a year ago.
The first
Gynger Lynn was basically their first demo tape where time hadn't been that kind to the sound quality. "Baby's gone Bad" contains 16 tunes in great quality. Compared to the first demo
Gynger Lynn now has become a five piece band with addition of keyboards to broaden the sound.
"Baby's Gone Bad" isn't a full Glam album as the predecessor. Just compare the front cover for their first release with this back inlay. The make-up and big hair has been toned down.
Gynger Lynn spans wide - especially the ballad
Never Find a Better Girl is a great mix of Hard Rock and Beatles Rock with the addition of saxophone.
The nasal voice of Dean Pressley grows on you. The band has worked a lot on the arrangements and their music isn't that far from fellow townsmen Enuff Z'Nuff and D'Molls. There is lots of atmosphere to their songs -
The Chance is a great example of that and among album highlights.
Beware that the first part of the record is quite disappointing. The last part shows a multi faced band and also multi talented song writing.
Gynger Lynn proves that there is a lot more to the band than expected after the self titled debut. It also seems like the band tries all kind of music, which makes the listener a bit confused after hearing "Baby's Gone Bad".
"Baby's Gone Bad" opens with a handful of weak tunes, but ends with a bunch of great tunes. Half good half bad!
