Jetboy certainly paid their dues on San Francisco's club scene and later played all the famous L.A. rock spots. The band was at the right place the right time being one of the pioneers in the big "hair metal" invasion. However, when it came to record companies
Jetboy ran out of luck. The debut "Feel the Shake" was shelved by MCA for approx 2 years and
Jetboy lost some momentum even though the follow-up "Damned Nation" was a solid record.
Jetboy reunited around the 3 core members; guitarists Fernie Rod and Billy Rowe plus charismatic lead singer Mickey Finn. "Off your Rocker" is the first taste of new
Jetboy material since the EP contains 3 new studio songs and 3 live songs.
The 3 studio songs displays a more raw and honest band.
Jetboy has always been about no frills Rock N'Roll and the 3 new songs underline that fact more than ever. Especially
Dogs Gotta Roam shreds bright light on the future of
Jetboy. Musically
Jetboy moves around
AC/DC land with Mickey Finn's voice up-front, whose voice has aged well. The 3 live songs are hampered by a beefed-up live audience, but the band plays spotless - actually they sound too spotless and therefore I wonder if they touched up some the flaws.
The music business has changed since
Jetboy's heyday, but "Off Your Rocker" is the perfect example that it doesn't have to be for the worse.
Jetboy has 100 percent creative freedom and therefore there is no doubt that this is the way Mickey Finn, Ferine Rod plus Billy Rowe wants
Jetboy to sound.
The 3 new songs crave an appetite for a new album. I could have spared the 3 live songs because of the above.
Jetboy is back with Mohawk, can you feel the shake?
