Article - B-Joe

Written by Michael

In the early nineties B-Joe released 3 albums. In Denmark the band build a very strong live reputation by constant playing live and being house band at a popular Copenhagen venue. The 3 studio albums never captured the rawness of B-Joe live. The original line up of B-Joe disbanded in the mid-nineties.

Saturday February 20th 2010 was a magical night. The original line up - with the exception of keyboard player Tee-Jay - reunited at a show in their home country Denmark. The reunited trio was: Bassist Nils Kroyer, Drummer Jesper "The Eagle" Irn and guitarist/singer B-Joe. The setlist consisted mostly of songs from the debut spiced with songs from "Ready to Ride"; Rock N Roll Junkie, Don't Wanna Loose You, Dirty Sheets, All Right Now and All the Nights. The power trio was tight and the musical skills in the high seat.

The magical concert regained interest in the first B-Joe album, which never was released on CD till 2007 where NL distribution re-mastered it and put it out.

Tracklist:
1. Little Angel
2. Messenger
3. Gipsy
4. My Angel
5. Don´t Wanna Fight
6. Oh Ma
7. Before It´s Too Late
8. Citylight Love
9. The Stranger
10. Down That Line (BONUS TRACK)
11. My Friend

The debut album has long been a much requested album among collectors after its original release in 1991. On this album B-Joe plays mellow Rock with great musicianship. There are plenty of guitar solos and even a bass solo. The songs might sound a bit dated because of the production, but the album is consistent and a true gem. The slower songs like the beautiful My Friends and Messenger are haunting and the up-tempo Citylight Love and Don't Wanna Fight are catchy. The breakdown on Gipsy where the guitar and bass duels were also performed live at the reunion concert and it was almost like being at a Mr. Big Concert. The "B-Joe" album is a musical playground and the reunion show only proved that these 1991 songs still stand strong and sounds great live.

B-Joe sounded the same as in their heyday and thank god for that. B-Joe's nasal voice is not for everybody, but the songs are so well written and well performed that most melodic rock fans have to give in on this debut album.

Song writer B-Joe should have been young in the flower power era since most lyrics deal with racism plus love and peace. The lyrics for Oh Ma are sadly still very up to date.

A gem for collectors and worth checking out for all melodic rock fans.
