The debut album from Acey Slade's newest fabrication "The Dark Party" is just released. The album deviates from Slade's prior bands Murderdolls and Trashlight Vision - it seems that Acey Slade wants The Dark Party to be a modern and electronic version of The Cult.
Acey Slade will never win any awards as vocalist, but he is a god gifted songwriter. When you peel off the electronic layers it comes down to the songs and Slade doesn't disappoint with these 11 songs. Album highlight
She Brings Down the Moon and
Spiders in a Snow Globe are really great tracks.
The hybrid of electronic and rock is most successful on
Nothings Gonna Change. The electronic elements are used to create a great emotion to the song.
Only because the album was released on TrashPit Records made me show interest. Trashpit has been guarantor of high quality releases and therefore I invested time into exploring this album. The reward came after a handful listens and I started to appreciate the songs.
Ironically the cover version of The Cult's
She Sells Sanctuary ranks among the weakest songs on the album. Acey Slade has written great songs and if you don't fall for the album highlights then try
Plastic Lego Queen,
Sugarcum or
Baby the Stars Shine Brightly. Please give the album some time and spins, because it is a grower and I assure there is something for most rock fans.
"The Dark Party" may be different but it is still a rocking disc from Acey Slade & the Dark Party. Go explore!
