Other information Band Profile
What is your name and your current position in the band? Adam Podzimski - Drummer and co-lyricist of Osada Vida One of the founders of the band. How would you categorize the style of the band? And did you ever consider or try playing other styles of music than the one(s) you are playing now? We played progressive rock/metal with lots of other influences. Before Osada Vida I used to play jazz, funky, classic rock and progressive of course. What is your latest album and why should people buy it? This is the 3rd official album: "Uninvited Dreams". We recorded it after albums: "Three Seats Behind A Triangle" (2007) and "The Body Parts Party" (2008). Our new album is a great piece rock of music with lots of jazz, funky, ambient, metal and other influences. It's a good music for these people who look for something more in music, for the "people with open minds". Tell us about the history of the band. More specifically, when was the band formed, how did you meet, and have there been any particular highlights or low points in your career, any crucial events that have taken you where you are today? OV was set up in 1997 as a trio: Lukasz Lisiak - bass, Adam Podzimski - drums and percussion and Blazej Kubica - guitars. The next year Rafal "R6" Paluszek, a keyboardist, joined the band. We played few concerts in Silesia (Poland). Then we met Magdalena Hajda who became our singer. At the year 2000 Blazej left OV and we started to play with a brand new guitarist - Luca Juraszek. As a quintet we recorded three albums (not official): "Critical Moment" (2000), "Heading The Moon" (2002), "Osada Vida" (2004). We played a lot of concerts in Poland (with Riverside - a polish progressive rock star) and started to think about a new album. At the beginning of 2005 Magdalena - voc. and Luca - git. decided to leave Osada Vida. The Rest of the band decided to engage a young and very talented guitarist - Bartek Bereska, and Lukasz took over the role of the vocalist. As a quarted we started to arrange new songs to our new album "Three Seats Behind A Triangle". In the middle of 2006 we recorded that compositions. We played a lot of gigs. In 2007 we signed up the concrat with a small record company "e-silesia". In October 2007 we played a gig with a world progressive star Mr Fish, then we signed up the new conntract with one of the biggest record label in Poland - Metal Mind Productions. For that company we recorded the nex two longplays: "The Body Parts Party" Was there ever a time when you wondered if your band would remain just a local outfit and never make it in the industry? We recorded three demo albums on our own and all that time we were looking for a record company that would like to release our music. However, in Poland it is quite difficult. As far as I am concerned we are more popular abroad than in our country. Can you share with us one or two of your favourite moments with the band? It's quite difficult to choose only one moment but I can say that one of the most important ones was that time when we decided to play as a quartet. We can say that it was a turning point in the bands history. The next one was a concert with Fish. Playing your own music as a support before such a great star is an unforgettable experience. How is the writing process in the band? Our music is mostly the resoult of a great improvisation. We meet together and everyone tries to play few sounds. After several hours of playing that sounds are changed into melody and then into compositions. The lyrics are composed in a different way. At the beginning we think about the main concept of the album. Next me and Ola write words, usually we argue a lot but the final effect is really good :) What brought you on the path to becoming a musician? Did you ever consider or take any other paths through life besides music? Do you know what the passion is? Our passion is music. We have never thought we could do something different. For us playing the music is like breathing for you. But unfortunately we must do something different for living. Do you have any idols? If yes, who? Classic rock and metal bands and of course progressive bands like: Rush, King Crimson, Genesis, Yes, Marillion, Porcupine Tree and many others. Do you have any regrets looking back at your career? For example any songs or even full albums that you regret recording? If so, what made you regret it? We regret we met so late because it took several years to create our perfect band. We also regret we didn't have the opportunity to record "Three Seats Behind The Tringle" in better conditions. Are there particular songs in your catalogue that the fans love but you're not particular fond of yourself? I am not pretty sure if such a song exists. But maybe... who knows? How important do you rate the lyrical side of your albums? A good album consists of good music and good lyrics. We can't say what is more important 'cause they support each other. We use sounds and words to describe the world around us. We try to seize the moments, emotions and introduce them to you . What do you think about the state of the music industry today? In Poland there is no music industry. We have only pop stars and the mainstream. Progressive bands are in worse situation but fortunately it's getting better. What do you think is the best way to fight music piracy? I'm not sure if there is any way to limit that problem. If sombody wants to copy CDs illegally I'm affraid there is no chance to stop him. Do you have a life philosophy? If yes, what is it? Do what you want to do and be what you want to be :) But be careful... Can you describe a typical day in your life? It's impossible to describe it :) What do you like to spend your time with besides music? Usually I spend my spare time with my familly, read books, play tennis, drink a lot of coffee and of course listen the music, but frankly speaking I have no life beside music :) What's the craziest thing that has ever happened on a tour? One day after the gig and few steins beer I realised I was able to speak German that I had never learnt. Well, good beer is better than few years of learning foreign language. You're heading off to live on a deserted island for a couple of years with your portable entertainment system... Which albums, movies or books would you bring? (Max. 3 of each) Music: Rush - 2112 Dead Can Dance - Spiritchaser Talk Talk - Laughing Stock
Books: Hermann Hesse - Sidhhartha John Steinbeck - Tortilla Flat Holy Bible
Movies: "Pick of Destiny" "Dogma" Andd the most important..."The Bold and the Beautiful" all parts of course ;)
What is your favourite joke? For me Monty Python is the king of jokes so all their performances are a masterpiece of good humour. Can you tell us about any future plans for you and your band? First of all we want to play as many concerts as it will be possible not only in Poland but also abroad. And at the end of the next year we would like to start working with our new album. Thanks for answering these questions. Now you are free to write a few lines to our readers. Thank you for listening to a good piece of music. Your attention is the source of our belief that music has that great power of giving happiness to all of you. We hope to meet you at the concerts one day.
