Lickity Split - Stick it In
Lickity Split was founded in 1988 and based in L.A. They were at the right place the right time playing all the famous clubs like Troubadour, Gazzarri's, The Roxy and Whiskey a Go Go. In the late eighties the scene exploded and maybe that's why Lickity Split never fell through the cracks. The scene was blooming and the Sunset strip was packed with band handing out flyers and each night the aforementioned clubs had "Hair metal" bands playing.

Retrospect Records has been putting out these nostalgia records for years and lately Eonian Records has also joined in specializing in releasing material from 80's band that never got a record deal. It amazes me how many great unsigned bands there was in that short time era.

Lickity Split is another great band and already by album opener Hungry for money you are convinced in their typical 80's kick ass Hard Rock with a great flashy guitar solo. "Stick it In" is very time- typical since it's a Hard Rocking CD with the obligatory ballad I' Dry Your Tears and typical for this style is all the sexual references in the lyrics. No need to elaborate on the title Stick it in. Also Clichés like Little Dirty Girl and Daddy's Home deal around same topic.

Lickity Split was influenced by the environment they lived in - listen to the chorus for Gypsy Whiskey :

Falling in Love, With a Gyspy
At the Whiskey
on the Sunset Strip

Vocalist Kenny has a great tone and the guitar solos are flashy. The sound quality is good and so is the material. However, Lickity Split lacks the obvious hit singles which probably was the reason for not getting signed. Lickity Split consists of good musicians and has good songs, so "Stick it in" is certainly worth checking out if you like the 80's Hard Rock genre.

The CD makes me wanna sit at the Rainbow 1988 - sipping a few drinks before heading out to the strip to experience what was to become most of my favorite bands.
