Some things in life are certain. ..holidays, rain, hangovers and once a year a new album from
Wildhearts. The fine Englishmen has been very consistent the last couple of years releasing top notch album, which topped with 2007's self titled album, which got yours truly fully convinced about the qualities of the band.
"Chutzpah" is their ninth album. The album was recorded in Denmark with Jacob Hansen, which primarily is known for his work with metal bands. The
Wildhearts has also taken their sound to the extreme with a more metallic sound on "Chutzpah". The heavy sound is in contrast to Ginger's melodic songs like
The Only One and also the sugar sweet choruses on
Tim Smith and
You Took the Sunshine from New York.
Wildhearts has never been afraid to break new ground, which has played a major part in their development. However, the electronic sounds on the title track don't suit the band.
Wildhearts is best as a guitar, bass and drums band. The band is a power pop band and they sound best on album opener
The Jackson Whites.Wildhearts' power pop songs sounds better wrapped up a bit more polished.
Cheap Trick has set the perfect bench for that on their latest release
. Yet "Chutzpah" is another solid addition to
Wildhearts' catalogue. Most songs sounds like they are cut to played live. Ginger continues to come up with tasty riffs and "Chutzpah" is anything but dull.
