I love
The Black Mollys. They are a hard working band doing their stuff the old fashioned way. They don't do talent shows but rather write great records and
tours. When not working on Black Mollys material guitarist, singer and songwriter Tory Stoffgren is playing guitar and touring with
Bulletboys and Enuff Z'Nuff. In those 2 aforementioned bands he found the current Black Mollys members: drummer Randi Scott and bass player Rob Lane. These are REAL touring musicians eating and breathing Rock N' Roll.
"One man's treasure is another man's trash" is Black Mollys' first European release after touring the UK twice building up a fan base - again the old fashioned way.
This CD is a compilation of songs from their 2 US releases, which
RevelationZ Magazine earlier reviewed.
http://www.steenjepsen.dk/revelationzmagazine/index.asp?ID=2808 In 2007 their first album aptly titled "The First One" was released and the follow up "Ignorance is Blissed" came the following year. While the debut album was a doze of straight ahead power pop/rock tunes in the vein of Butch Walker "Ignorance is Bliss" is a lot more varied and has more layers to it.
"One man's treasure is another man's trash" works as a unit. It also has 3 bonus tracks and a hidden track.
Ebony Eyes is a cover tune permeated by Tory's vintage guitar sound.
Miss Marvelous is an acoustic driven ballad but nothing special.
Behind Those Eyes wraps up what Black Mollys is about since it mixes vintage and contemporary.
The Black Mollys is a contemporary rock band based on the same values as Enuff Z'Nuff namely hooks, choruses and soaring harmonies.
The only complaint is that the record focuses on the soft and acoustic side of Black Mollys. I miss the power poppers
Sell me Out and
I give in from "The First one".
This is for fans of melodic rock, hooks and great musicians. Both records from Black Mollys sound amazing and this compilation is a nice wrap....If you don't have any of the first two albums you are out of excuses with this 18 track disc with a playing time of 64 minutes.
